What Moya said today
I know people on here said it was a set up but I thought Moya Greene today probably revealed more than a thousand WTL sessions or couriers. Thats not to say I agree with what she said.
She informed the meeting that Royal Mail have been the victim of th worst regulation of any postal company in the world. She went onto say that Royal Mail have the lowest price rates for letters in Europe and 85% of Royal Mails products are subject to price control and on the growth items like packets and parcels Royal Mail are still delivering these not to a profit.
She explained that what other postal in the world has been stitched up in the way Royal Mail has over DSA. On one hand the competitor can capture mail which we cannot compete with and them force Royal Mail to deliver this to home address and the competitors have now captureed 50% of this mail and Royal Mail made a lost on delivery DSA by 120 million last year.
Equally she said that the quality targets set by the regulator ate the worst in the world , not only do Royal Mail have to deliver 59 million items per week to 29 million addresses but have to do this quality wise 93% by next day and without any verification that the independent quality control is accurate. Last year this meant that Royal Mail had to be paid 7.5 million in compensation for this alone.
She also revealed she was told by Off Com on Friday that TNT have applied and been given a licence to deliver to addresses on the final mile in Chelsea , Earling , Fulham and Kensignton from August and they have stated within 4 years they want to serve 40% of Urban households. TNT only want to deliver one one or two days per week and only profitable mail.
Whilst the Postal services act says it will keep the USO for 10 years , it does conflict with the European directive on allowing more competition
She praised the CWU for the campaign to secure pensions and she says that pensions are now secured.
She also stated that this company cannot succeed without working with the CWU and building a better working relationship which won't be easy giving the history of poor relationships.
ON Business and Transformation she said sequenching had gone well and progress was being made on mail centre closures.
However she stated in terms of delivery transformation this has been the most differcult. She said that 339 delivery method revisions had been introduced and out of those 100 are still not working and she wanted to personally resolve them if necessary.
She said there was no going back on things like delivery method CDVs as the mix of mail is changing , stamp mail is decreasing whereas packets and parcels are increasing and there are currently 50 other players nationally dealing with delivering parcels and packets and of comm is going to allow Royal Mail to be more competive in terms of pricing and clearly shows the direction of where Royal Mail see deliveries going in the future.
She said that effiency in Royal Mail have been good over the last 7 years and 50 000 jobs have been lost but compared to other mail organisation it had a long way to go. For example the Dutch Post Office now has hardly any full timers and the average contract of a part timer is 9 hours.
She said Royal Mail's ambition must be to get automation in to do packets and parcels.
She supported privatisation and pointed out under public ownership over the last 10 years Royal Mail have been starved of finance and capital , had unfair competition , lost 50 thousand jobs.
Moya stated that she inherited the colleague share scheme and it was a totally flawed scheme and she would have never sanction such a scheme as a company cannot known where there cost base would be in. 5 years and she was in talks with the union over giving a share a the profits but on a yearly basis not some flawed scheme.

Did she mention anything about the daily bullying, harrasment, and intimadation being carried out by her managers?, and she said there was no going back on CDV's does she know her managers are splitting up pairings in shared vans and telling staff not to bother with the trollies.

Re: What Moyal said today
She was questioned on the fact that someone who was 55 could not keep up with someone who was 25 and that Royal Mail wanted just one standard of performance. She did say that she on her delivery office visits had been questioned on this and she has sought a presentation on the tools but she stated that the tools did not do this as these were average performance and not indivdual.
Now I said earlier in the weeks that Royal Mail and the CWU have agreed to carry out an audit on wether the tools are being used and if not to take action to ensure they are. Time is given for using an HCT and loops and people whether it's postmen and women who are chasing time or a manager who is trying to hide a failed revison need to both be stopped and told to use the tools that are provided.

Re: What Moyal said today
and most of the mess that we are in today is a direct result of the union bending over and handing it all to royal mail.
As far as staff are concerned, we have been shafted in the arse big time! I'm glad i don't pay into this crap anymore!

Re: What Moyal said today
I agree with the fact that the older you are the harder the job is especially if you are having to walk about for 4.5 hours and in my office there is a mix of certain postmen cutting corners and carrying big bags in order to make themselves look good but it results in managers telling other staff they are not up to the job because these certain postmen are quicker which in turn leads to the manager trying to intimadate you into not using the proper delivery methodsdingo wrote:She was questioned on the fact that someone who was 55 could not keep up with someone who was 25 and that Royal Mail wanted just one standard of performance. It sounds like she had plenty to say.
Is that why the branch invited her because to be honest they could have saved on the tea and biscuits and just read the Courier.

Re: What Moyal said today
I can assure you there was no love in , Dave Ward also spoke and answered questions and disagreed with Moya on issues.
I have been in Royal Mail for 27 years and have seen dozens of strikes some with good resolutions some not. But can anyone seriously say that inviting a chief executive to answer members questions is a love in ?
Now I think that people can blame the union for lots of things as its easier to blame an organisation for change when in fact given the threats of competition , pensions , automation and a declining postal market that change was always going to be massive and would have been a lot worse without the union.

Re: What Moyal said today
Fish in the courier people don't have the opportunity to question her answers and that's what happened today. There has been a d thread on here for months on working or not working revisons , the chief executive has now said that 100 offices out of 373 delivery method revisons are not working. When has another manager mentioned that , I only asked the question to Rob Jenson earlier this week and whilst he replied that there were some he never said it was a third of offices. You never heard that in the courier either.

If the adage that s**t rolls down hill is true, that paints a fair picture of what the working life of delivery folk is. Shame it's not mentioned that the national workforce are being abused day in day out.

Re: What Moyal said today
We've heard the threats dingo,we've had them rammed down our throats for 10 years now, first of all it was only management but now it's become a Joint Statement...it's becoming tiresome.dingo wrote:Now I think that people can blame the union for lots of things as its easier to blame an organisation for change when in fact given the threats of competition , pensions , automation and a declining postal market that change was always going to be massive and would have been a lot worse without the union.
It's time for solutions and i don't see many of those in what Moya said today,
For the 3 year plan it was supposed to be...the BTA has been an unmitigated disaster for delivery staff and yet the same people are in the same places.
While Moya flirts with the union and the union giggles like a hormonal teenager her management team continue on the same destructive path they always have.
She's a decoy dingo...nothing more.

Re: What Moyal said today
Next you will be telling us that a branch secretary and member of the disability committee didn't appear in The Courier as a guest editor or that all the gravy train brigade havn't been `invited` to a swanky do in Birmingham
...still as long as your comfortable with the `new relationship` then all us ordinary grunts should just be grateful that the propaganda wagon is well and truly under way.

Shouldn't the union know this anyway?the chief executive has now said that 100 offices out of 373 delivery method revisons are not working.
Jenson says this,Jenson says that,it doesn't matter what he says,it should be what the union knows!

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
