Not one of these tax's existed 100 years ago and our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world!

We had no national debt and a huge middle class, a large manufacturing base and mum stayed home to raise the kids!

Income tax existed over a hundred years ago.I'm fairly sure there was a property tax or variant too ( window tax).

I think at least some if not most of the list is lifted from the American tax system...or i have completely the wrong idea of what Liquor tax is.....
In that case Excise duty wasn't around in the 1600's unless the Native Americans were using it.

Yes, and there was a 'hearth' tax too! But at least in those days, it was only the rich who had loads of windows and fireplaces!

We've just had a £1 bakery open and that's very reasonable. You get 2 pies, 2 cakes, 2 small loaves, 4 rolls etc for a quid..................I'm obviously keeping its location secret in case Billy decides to move HQ Having said that he's hardly likely to get North of Watford...............makes you wonder how he manages to keep his scouse accent really or is it an affectation to amplify his working class roots.................when he retires do you think he'll move back north or wallow in the south, I'm sure he'll be able to afford it on his unchanged pension benefits.
