Hi well as you may or may not know I'm now in my 4th week of an OPG grade, and I'm on a 6 month 25hour part time contract.
The 09:00 till 14:00 sold me or bought me it fits in well with school drop pick up (me dad, wife big money earner).
So to the DO for 08:40 and find lots and lots of post to throw in takes me till 10:00 sometimes 11:00, before I can get on my round.
1/ Will it get any better?
2/ I know "it's early days yet!"
2/The round can take up to 4.5 hours to finish
The thing is I'm now the last out of the DO, I have offered to come in early so I can finish in time,,
Theres never anyone on my frame prepping it before I get there, only when I physically arrive.
Im really very frustrated.

By all means come in early but make sure they know you want paying for it and that you get paid.
DO NOT come in early off your own bat. Giving them 20 minutes of your own time first thing sends the wrong signal no?

I know it's difficult on a temp contract and the hassle if your new and obviously want to make a good impression, and they wont tell you the procedures, but you do not need to go over your time unless you want to.
Tell them if you dont think you can complete in time, if they try and sell you some story about how you're paid to do that in whatever time, its tosh and should be treated as such. It's up to them to get it delivered. You can only deliver what you can in your hours..
What delivery method do you use? (Trolly, bike, bag on shoulder..?)
BUT:
It does get better, it just seems to slot into place over time... I'm still new to this myself (7 months) and many times I'm just starting bagging up as people are out the door. I refuse to start before my time though and by the time I saunter up to my frame many have already knocked their first tray of walk sequenced in.. But on delivery I seem to do alright now (certainly better than before). I've only been on FT hours since Jan (I was a bag carrier/random cover/cut-off deliverer on PT hours before then...).
Bit of a tangent there, but the point is you get quicker over time as you dont have to think "hmm what do I do next?" all the time and I'd hope that the managers would be understanding as you learn the ropes (
I know).
If you're on the same walk all the time, look for ways of making it easier for how you prefer to work (ie try shorter loops back to boxes if it makes sense and you use them, maybe 'back' bundles if theres a lot of dead walking in a close or something where you can cross easily, sort out any anomolies or bits you think "this is stupid" as you walk it if there are any..) that will make delivery a lot nicer

yep did what you peeps said, walked in frame hardly thrown out so spoke to Dom and said will cut off at 14:00, he arranged for help with the round.
Strangely im a 25hpw but my signing on sheet say 06:00 start and 14:00 finish?..so I just write in my start and finish time.
Was taken to 1 side and asked if there was any problems!!..."yes" I say "The frames not prepped and its taking me nearly 1hr 30 mins to get it ready".

Sheet says 600 for a lot of part timers who start at 800 and 900 - just correct it everyday when you sign in.
Your cut off time should be something like 13 40 or 13 30 someone else will need to clarify but you are due a break working 5 hours... I think its 30 mins but it may be just 20. So taking this back from your finishing time makes your cut off time earlier than 1400.
They take the piss and you do have to stand up for your hours.

Yep that the only way
Either you get help or offer to come in earlier to prep ON OVERTIME.
The signing in sheets at our place are still set out for full timers, partimers do what you did.

That's exactly how it should be as designed and developed by RM planners. If you get anything less you either need to book OT or cutoff. This happened to me ALL the time before I started prepping my own. I joined the union, had the area rep in and it got better for a short while. After that I got all the remaining mail (usually loads of flats) pilled up on my fitting and waited for the DOM to walk down the isle then made sure he saw me taking a photo of it on my phone. When he asked why I said it was as evidence for taking it further and since then there has been no problem.
