new p&l partner

there's been a repick in our do and, although i've ended up on the same walk (despite expecting to end up floating, technically being a reserve) and have a new partner driving the van on a p&l route.

with the last chap he was faddy about getting everything done quickly, and explained that his walking routes were shorter/lighter to give him time to deliver the larger parcels etc. he usually got back to the van before me and took it out.

the new lady hasn't done driving before, and doesn't seem aware of this. she finishes at the van either at the same time or after me, leaving no time. in fairness, she does seem good at getting management to agree to a bit of o/t, but the last two days have seen stuff being taken back, even though both days have been pretty light. tbh, i'm worried how things will pan out on busy days with lots of large packets, especially as my previous partner and i always completed.

she's not local so is a bit clueless about the area of the walks (fair enough), so given that i have the local knowledge, plus the fact that i'm obviously a lot quicker on foot, it seems to me that it would make much more sense for us to swap roles.

The vehicle you use is signed out right? OK there fore when it comes to ,( Pay & Mod 2007). You,(the rep and DOM, have to identify who can and who cannot absorb). You finish times are now documented via the vehicle sign on sheets. You both end up in the same place and the same time(the office).

Now if you are stating that you want to finish quicker, are you stating that you prefer "job & finish?"

Give your partner time to adjust to their new duty, it will not help them to learn the new area if you try to take the driving responsibility from them.

If you really do want to help them during their first few weeks, take a little bit from both the very beginning and very end of each of their loops and integrate that with your mail. You can then ask your partner to park a little bit further into their loop and have your timings better matched to your individual speeds.

that sounds a very sensible plan, and would allow my new partner to get used to all of the loops, not just the ones she currently does. she uses her own trolley for her loops, so the only packets that need the use of the van will me on the loops i currently do.

i'm hoping that we can come up with a strategy to make things work so everything can get delivered; if it means getting o/t that i wasn't getting before, i won't be complaining…

On alternate days. I'm sure taking turns on the same day would be frowned upon.

One legal obligation management have is use a system where it is possible to identify the driver responsible if a driving offence is committed by an employee.

What happens if I don't know who was driving the vehicle?

If you are the registered owner/keeper/nominated person or as an employer, it is your responsibility to identify the driver of the vehicle in question. In the case of a company, your vehicle log should be of assistance. If you fail to supply the information required then the registered keeper/owner/nominated person will be taken to court and may be fined up to £1,000, have their driving licence endorsed or be disqualified from driving.
