Just got my payslip today and was horrified to see that not only has my overtime been underpaid, but at the bottom ( rather slyly if you ask me ) in the "Adjustments to net pay" column, that i have been docked a further £50+, with no real explanation other than it saying "Advance CHAPS"
Can anyone explain this for me? As far as i understood, CHAPS was just RM's paying in system, or however you describe it.

Basically they cocked up with some of the overtime and it was not processed correctly.
Now apparently most of the OT was to be paid retrospectively this week, but some if it was a large amount, would be paid in a one off payment. Have you checked your bank deposits from last Friday - they may have paid you the £50 that way and are now accounting for it by "Advance Chaps"
Either that or you have joined the TA

Not sure, kinda hard to get a hold of a statement without hassle ( don't really do the whole internet banking thing )
Gets more and more complicated anyway because our managers are forever fiddling the overtime payments with us PTers ( happens every time before the end of financial year, i assume to keep their numbers straight ) so if there was a cockup with the system, and as you say, some of it may or may not have been paid, it's gonna be hard to know what i'm "really" owed.
The negative £53 confuses me anyway as it doesn't bear any relation to anything i've ever seen on my payslip

It's an advance payment on your wages or overtime.
In this case it appears to be the reclaiming of an advance payment.

It will relate to £53 advance that you will have received last week. You should check your bank balance to make sure you received it. I'll be very surprised if you didn't as the advance process is pretty good. Check your own records of overtime worked to make sure you have received the right amount. I would always do that anyway.

Claiming overtime at the RM is such a hassel its a piss take. So I reckon its best to just not do overtime.
