if RM are serious about us using L/W trolleys

Why dont they get rid of all pouches and have trolleys with pouches permanently attached.
We bundle up all the loops and add them to the l/w trolley at the as and when required because some loops are bigger or smaller from day to day.
It would give more room in the van , it would stop all the H/S issues and everyone would be in the same boat.
But would RM do that ,of course they wouldnt , they would go bust with too many cut offs

They arn't is the simple answer. I was a walk tester with these trolleys when they first
came out. I went out with a planner and a manager for a couple of weeks. From listening
to what they were saying and reading between lhe lines. Royal mail has lost millions through
people off with bad backs...BUT for them the more worring thing would be, what if all these
people got together and filed a lawsuit.. Now Royal Mail has an arguement...Simple the
provide trolleys.

its transferring the responsibility from them to you if you have an injury on delivery realted to weight on the back or osme other health problem to do with carrying 16kg bags for 4 hours a day.

I agree it would be great if we dropped the pouch on the back and used a trolley. In time this may come but currently we have to try to get people from using their own private cars first

I have never, and never will use my own vehicle to inflate royal mails profits/losses. However the LWT has never and will never be the answer to taking weight off the shoulders, as it is simply transferring the problems to other parts of the body.

The answer must be the introduction of a pedal cycle that is fit for purpose. The current stock of cycles have never been fit for purpose as they do not have an efficient capacity and they have no proper means of supporting the weight or have a suitable balancing mechanism. Simple to fix, cheaper than any of the systems dreamt up under 2010 Agreement. Just go to Ireland and see what the cycling postpersons use in Dublin. Much larger front trays, will carry two pouches. The trays supported by two bogey wheels that can be raised when no weight in the tray (ie for cycling back to depot). No weight on the shoulder, no weight to be dragged or pushed around. The cycle is self supporting because of the bogey wheels supporting the tray, so no requirement to lift the front end of the bike to negotiate tight turning etc. No need to lift bike onto a stand. Why can,t this management team and our own CWU just look around and see what they are doing to this business with the reckless changes that are being put in for the benefit of none.

Were secure compact trailers hooked onto bikes ever considered? Would have saved millions on the new P&L vans/LWTs etc. fleet and simply adapted bikes for modern day deliveries with more packets.

All the weight is now on the wheels and it takes minimal effort to move it.

The act of pulling or pushing the trolley with weight on causes all kinds of misalignment with the skeletal structure, creating problems with the neck, shoulders, arms, hips etc. Also the bags are much lower to the ground than they are in a cycle tray, which means the operative will always be bending to retrieve mail from the pouches. Why have the golfing industry developed electrical trolleys for golfers? Because pulling or pushing a non motorised trolley over a period of 4 to 5 hours has an adverse effect on the body. You may not feel any immediate effect from trolley use, but the long term injuries will be very significant.

You've got to be having a laugh. Packets fill up the back of a Combo van some days, how the f*ck are you going to pull that lot behind a bike?

The whole point of the vans is that you take everything for those walks, cutting out on driving duties and travelling time. Pushbikes are totally outdated and inadequate for the job we do now.

Another possible solution would be to restructure the business and remove the packets and tracked items from RML entirely.
Turn all of the large items over to a courier structured business like Parcelforce and leave Posties delivering letters and small packets only.
