I am currently off sick with stress and depression and am considering leaving. How much notice do I have to give? I am 56 and already getting some of my pension so think I can get the rest, can't face going back or even speaking to the DM , who do I send my notice to ?

I would have thought you would be better off if you held out for IHR than quitting , get a referal to ATOS and sort it out with them. Also if you quit you will get no state aid , if you are medically retired you can go straight onto JSA and all the other aid also while ATSO/RM are sorting your IHR you will still be getting paid. Thanks they have sent for me to go but I couldn't make the appointment due to being sick, feel unable to cope with anything at the moment, I know that it is work that is causing it so quitting seems to be the answer.

M8 I've been dismissed unfairly in my eyes . Don't makes hasty decision, let the guys on here advise u , I agree withthepost above hang in there and go through there procedures , be referred again to atos and if you going toleave try to ihr .at least you will get some cash out of it

ATOS usaully do their interviews over the phone , if they want you to attend a meeting and you are too sick to attend then you don't go. They will then have to sort something out for you. I think IHR is the best way to go though as you will end up with a lump sum and they may make your pension up and it will be easier to claim state aid after you are finished.

thanks for the advice, my wife is disabled and I will be her carer full time so won't be claiming state aid, will try to hang on but it is just making me worse the longer it goes on

If your wife gets attendance allowance you will be entitled to carers allowance

I inderstand you want it all over and get on with your life . But you deserve a lump sum after the service youve given them itsnot your fault circumstances have changed,and you can't continue working . Have a conversation with atos on the phone and try not be bullied by rm into just resigning , you will get support and advise on here . I'm sure the majority will say the same . Please don't make any rash decisions. Could you speak to your union rep who could perhaps speak to your manager to arrange an ATOS telephone consultation? It's quite a lot of money we're talking about here and with your wife being disabled I'm sure you could use it atm. I know it's not easy when you're suffering from MH problems to deal with things, but will be worth it in the long run.

Remember if you're too sick to work, you can claim ESA, contributions based at first then Income based if your income is low enough. Is your wife entitled to DLA? Then you could get carers allowance on top. You've worked for it m8, if you need to claim it, claim it. There's no shame in needing help now and again. Don't let the bar stewards force u into resignation.

Don't resign mate.It is very difficult when you are under stress and depressed to make such important decisions.Even small things can get out of perspective so it is important to take your time with considering such a major step.

The important thing is you recognise that you are unwell and as with most times we are ill you need to take yourself out of the work environment in order to recover.Get to your doctor ASAP and get signed off work for as long as necessary.Be advised by the doctor , depression is very treatable but medication can take a while to start raising your mood levels.If its necessary take six months off on full pay and make your recovery ,you have paid for that right so use it

If you cant face your dom , send him a letter instead ,tell him that you are currently unwell thru' stress and cant cope with a meeting .Make sure you have been signed off by your doctor though and get the paperwork in.

Get your Union rep to come and see you at home if poss.

Stay with it mate, many of us have been in the same or similar situations and it does get better .

All good advice on here mate. If you are sick then stay sick, let the company take the lead on this.
In the long term this will be in your best interests.
Try not to think about work, just concentrate on looking after your missus, and yourself.
Resigning will only help the RM, not yourself.
Keep calm and carry on.

Get hold of your rep. If you would like Ill Health Retirement there is a form available. It is called an LS14. The option is there for ill health retirement. However just stay sick for a while and it may well be offered to you. Good Luck comrade!

All very good sound advice ken0109, only YOU know how this affecting You, listen to the advice m8 and don't jump into any decision...... a good guide is the EVR payment process....20+ yrs = 2yrs pay.... IHR = roughly half that... only a guide thou

dont resign, stay off sick, go through atos, get face to face appointments, and you should get ihr or ivr.
