Drivers wanting walks..Re pick

Due to have a re pick in our office soon.. A lot of drivers have expressed a wish to come off the driving for the sake of a walk...Got me wondering what happens when only driving duties left ...How can the bosses work this one?..Can they tell someone to go on a driving duty (operational requirements and all that..)....anyone cheers

We had the same problem at my office. A few came off driving, now they get pulled off their duties to cover driving duties. Management like to abuse the term 'Operational Needs' :roll:

We have been told that the walking and driving duties will be ring fenced ie drivers only being allowed to picking driving duies only etc. With our office having a large rural content the DIM is very worried the drivers will pick town walks leaving non drivers with rural duties they can't do. Union has said no ring fencing so watch this space lol but as the revision has been put back again and again who knows when it will be. :nana

yes someone will pick them or if they cant fill them junior staff will be on them

Happend here recently. Driver came off drive for walk but told "Once a driver always a driver" can be pulled off walk as needed.

They get round it in my office by having all walks part time. If a driver wants a town walk he has to lose 15 hrs a week.

I came off a driving duty on the last re-pick to go onto a walk. I still have the 6 months check and often i will be ASKED if i want to cover a driving duty. Normally people are more than willing to come off a walk for a drive :hmmmm

We've got the planers in at the moment,the late turn drivers are allowed to pick a walk if they want BUT the walkers wont be allowed to pick late turn driving duties!! Its gonna be chaos,they really dont know what there doing.The sooner it comes in the better,I love a f**ck up :nana

I didn't say they were now part time, I said they were part time. As far as I know they have always been part time, although I've only been there four years.

Part timers get town walks, and walk, Full timers get vans and rurals, with the odd exception. We are probably not a typical office, being in a small town and covering a very, very large rural area.

Why? I would be ashamed to have agreed to an eight hour walk!

The outdoor element of all duties should effectively be part time with the amount of indoor work determining full or part time contracted hours.
