Ok so I mentioned this the other week, that pouching off at post offices has been banned in my office, now managers want everyone to come back to the DO and hand the 739's in on the same day and wait until your contracted hours are up before you can leave, so that customers can get their packets the next day . Anyway I have been stuck on a rural delivery all week, and I have been sending 739's through the post box, (one's that could fit anyway), so that I don't have to travel the 4+ miles back to the DO. So today one of the linos complained to me about this, saying I was not allowed to do it and I have to come back. I told them that I am contracted to work until 3.00pm, which is approx when my last letter goes through the door, and after that it is my time and I do not have to go back to the DO., I do not want any docket and therefore, since I cannot take the 739's home I need to despatch them before the end of my contracted hours. He then told me that I have no choice about coming back, I have to do this even if it means I go 20 minutes over to do this. Is this right ? do I need to take these 739's back to the DO even though technically it would take me beyond my contracted hours and into overtime, which I do not want to do ? Do I need to tell them before I go out that if they want me to come back with 739's, then I won't be able to complete the duty in my contracted hours ? this is what I intend to do next time I am stuck on a rural duty, then we will see what they say

You cannot be forced to work overtime , just tell your manager you will be cutting off and taking your shuts back to the office

What do you do with the post van, don't you take it back to the DO? Just cut off so you have time ,if you don't want to work over your time

I get a lift out, and then I make my own way back home via public transport, because for the duty I am on, the DO is in the opposite direction to where I live.

I have done that before in the past, and have been left waiting for 30 - 40 minutes for someone to pick me up, time I would rather spend at home with my feet up, sipping a nice

If you know the duty well then you should have a good idea of how long it will take, so before you leave you can tell them you'll be finished at "x"pm and need picking up to return 739s - if it means they need to stream or get you to leave part in that's their problem. Take into account time to travel back plus time to hand in said items etc.

Keeping you waiting is typical Royal Mail bully-boy / harrasment tactics, don't be beaten down by it, stand and fight, stay strong! Never forget it is THEIR job to sort these problems out, if they keep you waiting and thus you go over your time, then you book it - make sure you get it - if not take the matter much further... Or explain that if they keep you waiting every day and you go over when you don't wish to and do not wish to be forced into it, then it is their responsibility to ensure you can finish and be picked up and returned to the office within your PAID HOURS.

Your right, I am going to cut off if I get another rural before I leave RM, and I'll make sure that the time it takes to get back to the DO is taken into account. Then the managers can deal with it, if there is anything left to deliver.

Yes, I usually finish at 3.00pm give or take 5-10 minutes.
I am not on this duty next week, I am on duty local to the DO, so it should not be a problem. However, if I am put back on a rural duty, I will be cutting off taking into consideration the time it takes to get back to the DO.
