Part-time employment rose by 59,000 to 6.6 million and full-time employment fell 50,000.

The number of people working part-time because they could not find a full-time job increased by 110,000 to its highest level since records began in 1992.

If PT wages where the same as FT wages then it would be great to work less but until then we need the wages, the only reason why the amount of PT people has increased is because bosses find it cheaper to only pay people PT wages and then they'll be begging for any OT and they wont be a likely to strike/cause any trouble.
Very sad that the benefit of business takes precedence over the well being of everybody else............and they wonder why the 1% are hated so much.

No.
Part-time income means more working tax credit,more child tax credit and less taxable income.
It means less income after retirement and more reliance on pension credit.
It means less savings,less home-owners and when you make it to the retirement home the state has to pick up the tab again.
And last but not least you're unlikely to be able to afford a decent burial.

Its ok to be part time Banner if you qualify for all the benefits or should I say jumped through all the hoops and untangled all the red tape. In the next few months I won't qualify for any child credits/benefits (last one off my hands ) so what would I have to do, get 2 or 3 part time jobs?

Almost tempted to do a poll along the lines of...

"Rather than have numerous different OPG contracts, would you as a full-timer happily downgrade your hours from the post-P&L agreed 39 per week to a level where every OPG had the same weekly hourly contract, to have a better work/ home life balance?"

Without "cooked figures" and taking into account typical weekly o/t claims, I wonder where that average hours worked per OPG would lie, bearing in mind the national 75/25% (FT/PT) split and the amount of bailing out that many PTers do for the depots? It would not surprise me at all if the average was 35 or more.

In all seriousness, I don't know how you FTers cope doing 40 or more hours per week or more, I'm mentally and physically exhausted when I've boosted my hours to an average above 30 for a whole year. The extra money was great, but outside work I was a nightmare, having no energy to do even basis household chores yet alone anything out of the ordinary (but then I do suffer from a medically recognised condition).

Or put another way , more taxpayers money being siphoned off to subsidise cheap labour and boost the profits of private industry. Don't know why they just don't cut corporation tax to the lowest level in the western world as well Still, surprising to see the condem's embrace the concept of wealth redistribution quite so enthusiastically
