It's not your problem to manage it. Get everyone in office to look at all duty options, then have 1 to 1's with rep, planner and lead Dom to find out everyone's aspirations. From that you have a base to work from. You all don't have to pick the same option for your 1 in 4 Saturday's either.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

If they don't get walk sequenced which is possible being a small office and they have at least 50% part-timers he could pull it off.POSTMAN wrote:Is he sure about that?Rep wants 1 in 4 Saturdays off for all as there are only 26 delivery duties with 44 staff available - no extra work and no loss of duties
If not the IWT will chew them up.

Do you have to do extra work to achieve the 1 in 4 Saturdays?
I thought it was all down to local offices to sort out for themselves with the list been endless with options in order to implement this.
office set up is 31 Ftimers 19 Ptimers

Re: How do you manage the 1 In 4 Saturdays Off
I was told by our union rep that us part timers would have to change to work a 3 day week sacrificing our Saturdays off, why should I give up my 1-6 to go to 6 in a year as I buy extra holidays. If I was offered an option of more Saturdays I would maybe consider as with other things our office is going through revisions, and we have still all the fun of park & loop to look forward too

You can still work 3 days and have 1in4 Saturdays off.cinemasaint wrote:I was told by our union rep that us part timers would have to change to work a 3 day week sacrificing our Saturdays off,
You just work 3 from 4....Thursday,Friday,Saturday,Monday and rotate your day off.
Every 4 weeks you get Fri-Thurs off.
It's very popular with the part-timers in my office.
Your rep just needs to think a little harder.

Or even work Mon,Tue,Wed then have Thur,Fri,Sat(Sun)Mon,Tue,Wed Off
Then work Thur,Fri,Sat off Sun Then work Mon,Tue,Wed & repeat above.
Or work 6 day week then have week off, one on one off all the way.
Both options giving 1 in 2 Sats off.
Now them are quite popular.

The pattern described by cinemasaint is very popular with West of Scotland management.fishtank wrote:You can still work 3 days and have 1in4 Saturdays off.cinemasaint wrote:I was told by our union rep that us part timers would have to change to work a 3 day week sacrificing our Saturdays off,

It seems several offices have already implemented it and apparently everyone is delighted with it.
If you've got enough people who are prepared to work every Saturday for whatever reason, it seems fine.
Otherwise it sounds like another crock of shite.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: How do you manage the 1 In 4 Saturdays Off
I am looking to include an option that is really aimed at part timers where they work every monday, friday and saturday, therefore getting tues/weds/thurs off every week. Putting it as an option mainly to part timers to see if anyone interested especially those with children who may think not having to get childcare for the tues/weds/thurs could be beneficial to some. If noone interested then will dismiss it but no harm in asking.
