driving allowance query

I always drove for RM,got my driving allowance, until I transfered office in Feb 2004, was this right as I transfered (even though still I drive)and was told I have lost the allowance?

This is from the Way Forward Agreement:

DRIVING ALLOWANCE

The new package will retain non-pensionable assigned allowances as personal reserved rights for the following employees:

• £6.00 per week (pro-rata to conditioned hours) for employees graded PMN/women, who are not receiving another assigned non-shift allowance, and whose substantive job on the 31 January 2000 involves driving a Royal Mail van (of less than 3.5 tonnes) for at least two conditioned hours per day. This will include reserve jobs dedicated to covering driving duties as of 31 January 2000;

• £6.00 per week (pro-rata to conditioned hours) for employees graded PMN/women or Streamline Level 4, who are not receiving another assigned non-shift allowance nor the £6.00 for van driving, and whose substantive job on 31 January 2000 involves driving a fork-lift truck for at least two conditioned hours per day. This will include reserve jobs dedicated to covering fork-lift duties as of 31 January 2000;

These allowances will be frozen and retained on a personal rights bases by these employees only so long as they remain in the same job as on 31 January 2000. There will be no payments for hours worked on overtime or Scheduled Attendance. These assigned allowances will continue to be paid during annual leave and other paid absence. Employees on rotations as of 31 January 2000 will receive an average payment.

So what does that mean for me, have I been told wrong all these years by management, was I still entitled to the driving allowance after all?

Depends what you drove.
And what was agreed when you transferred?

If you drove for RM before 2000 you should keep your £6. If you came off driving voluntarily you lose it. Ring wages up tomorrow. I have seen drivers backdated right up from 2000 to 2010. It is an easy supplement to miss as if you change,(on the spreadsheet) one allowance,it knocks off the others.

I only drive post vans, but got my drivers allowance for 7 years previous, when I transfrered nowt was said bout allowance, so I asumed that managers were right I lost it. The union rep said nowt so I suppose that I've been shafted by management and union, just about sounds right, I thought that the union knew the rules, but I fell through the net.
Have always wondered bout this , but knew I would not get this money but I thought I would try to find out if only I could get a back payment from RM for the last 8 years I could have a lovely hol on it

I wil try phoning HR tomorrow see if I can get monies owing to me, but will not hold my breath, RM will try everything to save money

you will need a manager to authorise it you cant just ring up hr and say you drive a van

Well I may aswell not bother,no manager will want to give me nearly 8 years lost allowance, it would affect their bonus But then again what have I got to loose
