Bullying on the rise since revision

Post by Superfly »

We have had a revision in our DO (Stafford), on about 10 duties out of 80 have been changed so far as its being phased in. Those duties that have changed have failed miserably, the planners have been out on some of the walks and are at a loss as to why its not working.

The area manager and his cronies have come in and have started to blame us for its failure, bullying is now rife. We have raised it with the union and they tell us that we need to raise grievances or fill in bullying and harassment claims and that they are taking it up with HQ, but when will we HQ wake up and get involved. :arrrghhh

I've been a postman for 20+ years and the new breed of managers are the worst animals I have ever seen. They seem to enjoy making the average postman's life as hard as possible. We have had at least 12 people suspended, some for months on end and then bought back without even being given a reason for their suspension. :no no So much for this new relationship we were all told about. :evil/mad

Has anyone else who has had a revision also seen an increase in bullying?

Yes same in my office and it appears to be happening in a lot of offices, you definately need to put in grievances and bullying and harrasment complaints, unfortunately the union appears not to want to challenge this behaviour. Try not to let it get you down as you are not doing anything wrong.

Just a piece of advice, use the grievance procedure and not the B&H one, just pick every failure to follow rules and use that but remember to follow all the rules of the agreed procedure.
Buy yourself a diary (page per day is the one you want) or a note book and write everything down..........keep records of everything and then use them.

I would like to respectfully say, if you are being unfairly singled out or bullied use the B&H procedure..... From my own experience the Grievance procedure is a joke and not taken seriously. 5 out of 6 charges against a manager were found in my favor (some very serious) yet the DOM was only recommended to stop what he was doing, but just caries on, not to me but to other colleagues in our office :no no :mad
I was actively discouraged and eventually refused by HR to go down the B&H line even though what the DOM had done is quoted in the English dictionaries under the definition of Bullying..... That alone told a story to me, they can paper over any grievance but really don't like cases to be heard as a bullying or harassment case, they have to take it much more seriously.......

OK from my own experience of the B&H procedure.............everyone who took one in my office had them turned down and then they all ended up on the conduct code for bringing false charges.................use the grievance but only for things you can prove.

We've lost 12postman in the last 3months ,all sick of the bullying and harassment ,many of whom had very long service. All replaced with part timers or nothing at all ,every duty of there's replaced to part time. All we hear is the mails down ,swings and roundabouts, performance issues, yer all crap at you're jobs, you're getting timed etc etc. nothing about all the full time staff and sorters we've lost . Also trying to sack ppl for minor incidents, wtf is the union , Dave ward my subs are gonna soon be spent on a nice cold beer instead of wasting it on you .

You are only going through what we did several years ago, once you get it into your head that it's only a job then things will start to get better.

What is really depressing about this thread is the deja vu, here we go again language.

The revision failed because of:

useless planning values that the planners believed were correct.
Local managers who knew the volume counts and 100% BSI was nonsense were ignored and
Local managers who were too stupid to realise they were rubbish so kept ploughing on

DSMs operating to target dates and savings were not concerned about whether it would work only that it went in by X and saved Y,
Then having made the savings, they discovered it didn't work, then all the managers and all the planners looked round and had a good think and worked who was to blame...
Can you guess whose fault it all is?
Thought so, now comes the bullying and the testing and the 'performance issues' 'and the 'challenges' and 'get into them' bullying

Meanwhile back at the CWU, who signed up for this, agreed the call rate, agreed the model week etc, are very prickly to criticism from postmen and local reps and are too slow to react,
When they do react, the grievances are not followed up in time, they are too easily fobbed off and local reps come under assault from all sides.
Next the suspensions start and the sackings begin

on and and on it goes, for years now, not months

How is it possible another revision has failed? Doesn't anybody ever learn in this shambles of a company?

One definition of insanity is 'to constantly repeat an experiment and expect a different outcome'

which makes Royal Mail and the CWU totally f***ing insane.

Meanwhile, thousands of postmen dread going into work everyday,

the insanity goes on.

Good luck Stafford boys, you'll need it.

Members have no experience of park&loop,it couldn't be more different than the way the job was done beforehand.
If the rep,the planners and management thought it would work and they had all of the science at their disposal you can hardly blame the members for putting their faith in the tools.

If i said to you i will stick two 3.30hr duties together, add a bit for good measure ,completely redesign it,turn it into loops, give you a partner,a trolley each, the packets, specials and tracked and ask you how long it would take you wouldn't have a feckin clue.
Neither do most of the members...the rep...local planners....local management...area management...the area rep....branch....regional directors...divisional reps ...CWU HQ...the PEC...or senior management.
The only difference is the members don't pretend they know what they are doing. :cuppa
