Hello, when you cut off does the managers have to try and get it deilvered and if they can't do they have to report it as failed? Because neither happens at our place I don't think.

my p&l partner told me that if you do that you will get told it's wilful delaying the mail

even though it's within royal mail's rules to bring it back and finish on time

Yes, they should also report it as its a failure of the USO for which Royal Mail can be fined.


and if they don't it has been known for managers to be sacked, moved to non operational duties, and apparently some also tended their petunias for an extended period.

There's a procedure for overrunning deliveries, that is to be followed.

All decisions must be made on the basis of a clear expectation that once the OPG departs from the Delivery Unit they will be able to deliver all mail in the remaining duty time. Failure to complete delivery could be investigated and may result in a conduct code interview.

Yep, unless he can provide you with another document that contradicts that then this one is still the one we all go with.

The over running deliveries procedure does allow, at the least they way I read it , allow them to tell you to do that..... But it should be recorded and allows for the option of the postie contacting the manager when out on delivery when they estimate they still cannot complete.

Normal practice is to leave it in at our place but we have to have managers agreement to do it.
