three month temp contract, chance of ongoing renewal?

Hi everyone, i've recently been hired on a three month temp contract as a postman with occasional driving and was wondering what the chances are of my contract being renewed after the three months if i do a good job?

any replies would be gratefully received, i'm very keen to work long term within the royal mail.

Welcome to RMC and RM.

Chances all depend on whats happening in your area to be honest, however it seems as though most temps contracts tend to be rolled over for quite some time.

At the moment all of RM is undergoing a major change in the way we deliver mail, and in some offices its causing a lot of extra work, if your at one of those the chances are pretty good. If however, you are in an office where it beds in quickly then obviously your chances are lower.

BTW there are 1500 delivery offices so unless your lucky to have a colleague on here the chances of RMC knowing how well the change is going in your office would be slim.

i enquired about that at interview, and was told that, subject to performance, it was pretty much a certainty.

i'm currently in the same boat, but as the uniform has arrived and i've been asked to put in request for holidays for the whole year, it's looking pretty good, barring a big fur cup of course…

i guess it all comes down to where the do is regarding revision, and those around it…

Thanks for the replies, i did ask at interview as well and was also told it was a near certainty... but lol my mind is abit suspicious.

Cant add much more to the posters above but using my office as an example; everyone is recruited on 3months, and everyone that wants it has it extended, even those who are incredibly slow in all departments.

Around here it's 2 x 3month contracts then a permanent one, thought that varies from office to office.

While this place is a very useful resource; bear in mind people tend to post more when upset so it's not all doom and gloom as stated here, hopefully keep your head down, and have as much fun as is possible while working.
