duty of care

i just find it so ironic that RM's idea of 'duty of care' involves doing things that make a condition work. arthritic backs need to be kept mobile and supple so i get taken off of a delivery and made to sit around indoors doing not much for weeks until assessed by atos. crazy!

Sounds like the ideal situation for a "Fit note" from a GP, in fact isn't what you have described the raison d'etre of them.

Im a manager for Royal Mail and most of the threads slag us off, I feel compeled to respond to yours i have been off work since last Sep with a herniated disk i was not removed from my duties which from time to time included deliveries, This made the situation worse for me. So ask yourself this whats your manager to do he/she is not medicaly qualified so he/she has to wait for a report from ATOS to ensure they take the correct action! Sounds like you have a manager who has listened to you and does not want to make any matters worse by sending you out on delivery.

As you say jock, the manager is not medically qualified, so in the absence of information to the contrary why would the duty be changed, more especially if the person involved feels that it is detrimental to be sat around, which could make the condition worse.

the manager in question has a recent atos report stating what i can do, he has a letter from my specialist telling him i need to be kept mobile. this is not about my health its about finances and trying to get me ill health retired

carrying a 16kg bag on your back aint going to help it is it. what kinda duty you after ??

Correct. Therefore part of the reasonable adjustments would be to reduce the weight of each pouch.

The 16kg is maximum weight not a target weight, as an aside I think the heaviest I have taken out this week is 13.5kg.

thats exzctly what i was doing. amended duties with lighter bags,had it worked out and it was working fine until DOM decided he knew better and made the matter much worse
