One half going home early.

Post by 5plusbonusball »

A few of our guys want dropping off at home or near the bus stop rather go back to the office , leaving the driver to return everything and pouch off etc.
Where does the shift time or insurance cover end for them if they're on the street alone and the duty is not officially over?
It doesn't apply to me as i'm a driver and my buddy can't drive. The dom turns a blind eye to it but until something goes wrong I wouldn't want to get into trouble say if one of the packets went missing and wasn't pouched off.
I'm not a spoilsport and my buddy has never done it but there's a lot of things that could go wrong for the lone driver and his equipment / 739s etc. especially as there's no dom or witnesses still available after 2:30pm.
Why are lino's paid full-time ??

It shouldn't matter, might annoy some people but the best way to deal with it is to ignore it, you can only be responsible for your own actions (and maybe to a smaller extent your P&L buddy). The insurance wouldn't matter because many people have gone home early in the past (and still do) so it won't affect that.

As I said, it'll only annoy people if they let it.............ignore what others are doing/not doing and expect to work your hours and everything will be a lot better in the long term.

Unless you were employed with driving in your contract you must have put your name down for it.

More responsibilities, same money.

We're all covered by RMs insurance while we work for them (employers liability).

Don't know, every employer in the country must carry employers liability insurance to cover staff in case of injury, I'm sure someone on here will know the details of who underwrites it.

How would anything go missing ? You're not pouching off?? You're going back to the office with all undelivered items. I can see through this and you're definitely not bothered about anything going missing or insurance. It's about having to drop off the non-driver and you having to go back to the office with everything and finishing later. Here's what you do if the non-driver doesn't want to go back to the office....

You estimate how long it takes to drive back to the office and deal with all the equipment and undelivered items.

Leave the non-driver with a similar timescale of work while you deliver any remaining recorded letters and packets and go back to the office.

He finishes on the street and goes home and you finish at the office and then go home.

Technically you both should go back to the office once finishing your deliveries.
