Broken Toe

Broke my big toe on Monday evening, came into work Tuesday and just about braved the pain, thinking it was just bad bruising/strained. (Manager sent 3 of us out in a large van so I could do the flat bits, as there are a lot of stairs). But in reality I probably shouldn't have come in as I winced more than a few times on the walk!

My day off today so I went up to the local doctors, who then referred me to A&E, and after the X-ray told it is broken at the tip. He told to rest the foot for another 3/4 days to let the swelling go down and do as little walking as possible (as the big toe takes a lot of the weight whilst walking).

So I phoned the manager when I got back home, and told him that due to it being broken and the swelling + (pain) I'm in that I wouldn't be in for the rest of the week, but hope to be back in next week. He seems fine with it and just told me to call him on Saturday to confirm if I'll be in on Monday.

I haven't ever had a day off/been late etc in the two and a quarter years at RM, or any other job before I've had infact, have I taken the right procedures?

I cannot see that you will be able to go straight out on delivery.

Once the pain is eased try to speak to your dom and arrange to come back for a period of indoor light duties, i would try for a couple of weeks min.

It might be a good idea to go see your GP and ask for a cert for light duties.

You could always come to my office, we have 4 posties on light duties and only have 20 walks. The more the merrier!

I'm back in work now, the toe is feeling OK, still a little sore but better than expected.

I had my back to work this morning and got all that sorted out....

But just this second ago I had a phonecall from ATOS, telling me that they'd be phoning me tommorow? Gave no reason and put the phone down?!?!

You should have had contact with them before going back on delivery IMO. Your manager is more likely to listen to them and keep you on a planned rehabilitation program than take your word that you are ok to go back. But judging by what a lot of people on here have to say about ATOS I guess my experience with them was an exception

Sounds liked your manager referred you to ATOS, however nice to read your back to work, the best therapy you could wish for.
