afternoon folks,we are having a letter count next week for figures for our upcoming revision,just want to know are door 2 door leaflets counted,i think they should be becuase they are classed as live mail nowadays,anyone know.if they are counted. hope we get 6 lots next week

yes they are counted as they are now part of your workload.
you should try and find out what the average d2d in your office for the year is.

As for the count they will do this on tuesday no doubt!!!!

Do you really mean counting how many letters per walk, or do you mean the call rate?

If its call rate, put 1/6th D2D in each day and even if you only have D2D for a delivery point, it adds to the call rate that day. Bare in mind there is nothing to say which delivery points get D2Ds on which day, so have a little think about where you want to go on a given day, as more total delivery points means the walk will take longer to do properly.

If it literally is letter count, the data is pointless, just like the "mail volume is down propoganda" we all get. As long as a delivery point has a piece of mail, you have to divert off the pathway to deliver it, taking extra time and extra distance covered by foot. If Fred at No. 10 typically gets 10 letters per day and suddenly there is a 10% drop in mail volume, Fred is still going to have 9 letters each day, so the only savings to be made are the 1 or 2 seconds of not placing that one letter correctly in the walk frame and the extra second(?) of not filtering that piece of mail while stationary (looking through the bundle for the next delivery point's mail while on the move is dangerous compared to standing on the doorstep of the previous delivery point, it might take some extra time too).

The traffic count is more about the relative traffic per walk rather than the absolute number. For example if walk 1 gets 50% more letters than walk 2 they will need to allocate 50% more prep time to walk 1.

I can see where you are coming from, but to draw decent conclusions like true relative prep times, you need to be doing hell of a lot more than one random week (or was it chosen because managers knew the predicted figures would be low? ) of letter counts.
Its like doing a survey of ten people, to find six of them smoke. Does that mean 60% of the country are smokers?

yes they should be counted but youll find you wont get any , thats what happened in our office. surprise

We recently had piles of national holidays a4 books , then Yorkshire water bills to each address but I bet they withhold any bulk postings to your office until your count is over!

But unless you break the count down into every individual postcode what's the point as the duties will have changed after the revision
