DDA ?

Our office is shortly going to have a delivery methods revision. Once the revision is completed a resign will take place. A small number of staff who have long term health problems and come under the disability discrimination act seem to think that they can pick duties ahead of senior men because they come under DDA. Can anybody tell me whether this is correct?

people who are deaf come under the DDA , yet they still do deliveries yet some one who has had there knees go cant do a full delivery who also fall under the DDA

sorry my friend i aint attacking anybody,just stating a fact !!!!

we should not even be talking of collegues who fall under the remit of the DDA

that information in confidential between the data subject and the occupational health advisor

even the DOM would not know in some cases.

it is down to the occupational health to do the recomendations

Totally agree Keith . It seems to me, that it is perceived that colleagues who are covered under the DDA are ' at it '.

Some ( not all ) , don't believe how lucky they are ...

Like all safety nets there will be those who abuse the system but what is the alternative,treat everyone as a con artist and get rid of the safety net?
That's a strange philosophy...it's a bit like saying we can stop benefit fraud by having no benefit system.

There is a bit of confusion over how the system works though,you don't get first pick of the duties......that would be pointless as the majority of them would be unsuitable.
A duty is identified and modified if necessary to suit your needs and then it is ring-fenced.
You don't actually get a pick at all.

I think it is falsely assumed that some are pushing their way up the senority list by being covered by the Act .

It is the prized indoor turns ( Locker, callers office ) where the snide comments always start, when they are 'ringfenced ' .

Everyone is a amateur Doctor these days ...

The people you are alluding to easterbunny know that the use of emotive phrases like 'pushing their way up the senority list' is guaranteed to stir up resentment against people on ring-fenced duties. The cretins that stir up that kind of trouble show their complete lack of compassion for those who may be less fortunate than themselves

If it were possible for a chap I knew to have swapped his 'cushy' duty and multiple sclerosis, for my good health and one of the longest walks in my old DO, I'm sure he would have done it without a second's hesitation. Thing is, one of the moaning gits that talked about this chap's 'preferential treatment' is still, years later, the biggest moaner in the office, whilst the guy with MS is now medically retired and confined to a wheelchair

Problem is of course, is that in a lot of DO around the Country they are simply not the indoor Duties for colleagues under the DDA Act . The RM will make a minimum effort to comply with the Act - then after they said they have made a ' reasonable adjustment' start threatening IHR .

Even my old office with a Mail Centre attached to it - they are simply lapsing the duties in there . Colleagues in the DO have no where else to go when they cannot do a delivery . DDA is the only way .

I started this thread as a couple of people on DDA are going around saying I will have this duty on a resign where as fishtank has stated duties will be designed if at all possible prior to a resign to take into account their disability and ring fenced. Obviously I have no problem with this but some staff are a bit wound up when a 25 year old tells a 55 year old 30 year man I am going to have your duty because I am on DDA. Not good for morale is it. I asked the manager what the policy was and he did not know. Trouble is, as anybody in delivery will tell you, there are a few lead swingers about

DDA duties should be designed for the particular person, they're not to be just grabbing the easy (?) duties in the office. Not that there should be any easy duties because they should all be the same.
