Displacement by dda?

Post by rinky »

In my office we have someone who appears to fit dda criteria. I understand that as a result of this he may be able to take a duty which would best suit his abilities, is this correct?
For my duty I recieve a leadership allowance, were he to be placed in my duty would I have any grounds to maintain my allowance?

Wrong! They would sign for a duty under the Way Forward on vacancies and of course seniority. That duty would then be designed by his manager for DDA. You cannot "ringfence" for DDA,just design the duty they sign for. Otherwise you will have two seniority lists.

FFS it's not the DUTY it's the person who needs the reasonable adjustment..jesus wept sick of this crap.
You ask the PERSON what are his needs then design the duty around that. And if he needs more adjustments YOU DO THEM.
So what happends if some fuckwit manager designs a duty for DDA and it doesn't help the person involved one bit,not much point them putting aside a walk for DDA and saying shite like "well it's all flat ground compared to all the other postie rounds but is a similiar length of delivery"" arn't we f***ing great we've designed a DDA walk!" if the person can't do a delivery or can only walk for say 2 hours at most

You would not naturally "give a DDA" a duty, overriding seniority. Remember there is an annual assessment by the DWP. If it is a permanent disability then the duty is to be "designed".

PS: I use the word "designed by his manager" loosely. Branches as mandatory have an equality officer to liase with the rep too

Never happens at our office. I have a permanent condition under DDA and picked into a suitable duty for the condition under seniority, still get moved from pillar to post every week.
Quite a few times on unsuitable duties

The Duty would need to take into account the individuals needs for reasonable adjustment. For instance an individual who has a problem with his/her knees might need to do a delivery without steps, therefore a current flat duty would provide the reasonable adjustment required and could be withdrawn from the re-pick (ring fenced) for the individual. all cases under the Equalities Act would require differing adjustments but these would be outlined by ATOS. Some may need adjustment to delivery spans others duty content etc. But they must all be ring fenced for the individual for whom the adjustment is being made.

This is the most argued of arguments. There is no real winner here. One argument,(and certainly mine) is that you cannot have two seniority lists or two sets of duties). Now for example, you say stairs. Well ideally you are really meant to use walks such a reserves as any one individual will,(and WILL,eventually suffer with knee issues). This will alleviate issues. Perhaps these overly long walks could be absorbed,(if you are lapsing)?
Meaning the extra bit that the DDA individual cannot perform.

Sorry for hijacking the thread i know this is about dliveries, but what about other functions in RM such as Network. In the office i am in there are a few people who are DDA, and cannot work certain hours, so how would that affect a duty resign?

please remember people

we are talking of a collegue who may lose his/her job with this tit for tat

if a job is avaliable that the person with a DDA condition can do, so be it

as long as its done through a revision or by agreement, whats the problem

you people who bitch about this remember
if next week your knees go, how would you feel about the prospect of loss of employment

you will soon be singing from a different tune then no doubt

have some compassion

It depends if the adjustments can be justified with respect to their disability.
Be careful though because it's not your place to make that judgement and there may be aspects of his/her disability that you are unaware of and quite frankly have no business being aware of.
