Re: PDA vs delivery sheet!?!
The PDA is a major Pain in Da Arse (sorry
). There have been doorstep occasions where I've had to piss about with the thing for up to five minutes to get it to work properly, by which time the customer is usually fuming.

Yeah, sadly they are crap. The one I use starts bleeping about "low battery" after only about half an hour on delivery. Still better than messing about with bits of paper in the rain though.

Somehow i still find the paper ones much more manageable as there is not much that can go wrong except losing it/ rain...Cknmonster wrote:Yeah, sadly they are crap. I prefer the PDAs, when they are working at least. Much easier in the rain and for multiple items. The main problem with them now is that all the batterys are knackered. The batterys are only supposed to last 500-1000 cycles, after having them for 4 years they will have probably done about double that so it is not exactly surprising. If RM had any sense they would have planned to replace all the batteries after 3 years when they first got them.

I can testify that they are a problem and after 3 years of using them they haven't improved either the software or the hardware. It doesn't end there though to get a swap out or a replacement battery is a real chore trying to get through to the IT department and once through going through the rigmarole of the details.

It's most annoying when you've just started a loop and can't do anything about it, despite it's incessant beeping (as if it'll charge in the 30 seconds it takes to move the van to the next loop point). I got so irritated I pulled the battery out. When I got back to the van and plugged the battery back in, the clock had reset to midnight 01/06/2005. I told the PHG it fell outCknmonster wrote:The one I use starts bleeping about "low battery" after only about half an hour on delivery.

One for me and one for my driver. Since then I've started putting mine into standby by locking it and pressing the power button - the light at the top goes blue and then it turns off. Takes just two seconds to reactivate it and I haven't seen a low battery warning in weeks.dvbuk55 wrote:How many PDAs to the van mrrush?
