Buy back of hours,how does it work?

I'm thinking about dropping down to 25 hours per week from 31 1/2.

Is the buy back of hours still in place and if so, how does it work?

You don't get it willy nilly.

For instance...

if you have an office with vacancies you won't get it,the reason being they are not going to give you a few £k to buy down then recruit new starters.

If your office is fully staffed and the work plan shows that they can lose your hrs then you could get it.

Usually a revision can throw out a buy down but again only if you are fully staffed and have no vacancies.

You can only have a buy down of hours if there is a surplus in your office and there is an agreement between the management and union to decrease the workforce by this means.
It is calculated as the lump sum you would get with EVR divided by the amount of hours you decrease by over the amount of hours you do.
An easy sum is say you are due £40,000 EVR lump sum and you are reducing your hours to 30 per week from 40 meaning a drop of 10 hours so the sum would be-
£40,000 divided by 10/40 = a lump sum of £10,000
But like I said RM and the CWU have to be in agreement over reducing the office hourage this way.

I went up from 30 hours to 40 hours about 6 months ago. Assuming I had a permanent contract, how long would I have to wait before I could get money for a buydown back to 30 hours?

And then how long would I have to wait before accepting a contract back up to 40 hours?

I reacon if I yo-yo ed up and down a lot I could get some lump sums of cash...

A full timer can sign for a part time duty (and go part time) during a repick or if the duty goes on the board outside a repick.
If no buy downs are available he would obviously not get any payment for it.
No doubt there are some full timers who want to go part timer for whatever reasons.
This kind of scenario would throw up a part timer possibly going full time,I say possibly as we all know how RM work.

If this was to say happen in my office,we would try to get cast iron guarantees that we wouldn't get stitched up.IE:one of out part timer not given the full time job.
No bog wash.
