Yes mail is down but what they dont tell you is that the people who are delivering the mail is down percentagewise even more.
My office for example has had delivery staffing levels down from 42 to 32 and delivery points have gone up due to a harbour development and new housing . Our rounds have increased in size and mine personally from 650 to 800 since revision plus we now do packets as well.
Even though 'mail is down' each postman is still delivering more mail per individual postman.
Is there any anorack out there that could tell me how many delivering postmen percentagewise we have lost these last 20 years?

Not only is the number of postmen down but the number of hours is down even more because of increase in PT

It really is quite pointless, their constantly banging on about alleged falls in the amount of mail we deliver, when the fall in the number of frontline staff is even greater.
Our bosses really are a dishonest bunch.

How can they say the amount of mail is down, ok the amount of "postal" mail might be down but what about D2D's? Aren't we being told this is on the rise and how it's now part of the workload? so is that being included in the amount of mail?

Mail down (possibly) but Postmen down and houses up.

What really matters to us is the amount of mail per postman, and that has gone up, as well as the ground covered (the amount of houses delivered to).

the headline said fall in TRADITIONAL MAIL. but then historically RM never did carry big personal mail volumes it always was more business mail. I am afraid RM looking back to a time that never was

Actually read the courier for the first time in god knows how long this time.

In the letters section there was a bit about footwear and someone mentioned why don't we get karrimor boots. I have to agree on this as I have a pair They're the most comfortable boots I've ever worn, they're breathable, are fairly cheap and are actually waterproof. In fact as far as being waterproof goes they are must better than a lot of so called gortex boots I've owned and that includes brasher and berghaus which were more than twice the price.
