on-walk sustenance…

Post by thecyclingexpostie »

what do folk take to eat/drink on the walk?

being a cyclist i tend to take as much as i would for a bike ride of similar duration, so a bottle of isotonic drink and a couple of flapjacks/mars bars etc. it was so hot yesterday that i needed a second bottle from an on-walk shop, so will now leave a spare in the van, just in case.

handy for eating on the move, although of course, in theory breaks should be built into the time allocated for the walk, but that's another thread entirely… :arrrghhh

You get a break, use it out side to split your delivery.

Are you on a bike or in a van because it looks like you're using both?

As for what to eat/drink-water is best, usually 1lt for the winter and 2lt for the summer (better to have too much than not enough) and if you're not have a full lunch then you're best with some fruit, I find a banana works for me (the chocolate gives you a big sugar rush but it goes too quickly), best to plan your food/drink and not let yourself get really hungry/thirsty.

just a little tip for posties for when summer gets here. I was given this advice from a more senior postie in my office, he 3/4 fills a bottle with water and puts it in the freezer when he gets home from work, in the morning it's frozen but before he goes out he fills it up. As the day goes on the ice melts and he's always got cold water, I tried it and it actually works.

Yes. I have been doing this for years. Your water stays cold all day.

One or two litres of water, depending on which duty I'm doing and if there is somewhere to put it. Sometimes two slices of toast.
