Private Car ... am I in deep ?

Hi all.
Been working here a year now
I work in Gloucester north currently.
Firstly worked in Glos South for 5 months or so.
Worked stroud/Cheltenham over xmas.

Now at all of these locations I have seen private cars being used apart from cheltenham as i was inside sorting most of the time.
Stroud I had a delivery with a guy who was from the IB apparently. And it was ok to go in his car.
To my knowledge I have not seen a revision or been asked to read or sign one and my contract says nothing about not using one.
The reason I take my own car is I find it more efficient, which helps as I move delivery each week and can do households. If I'm waiting for another person I then cannot usually do my households as I have to leave by half 2.

I am now getting getting coucilled about this.

Any advice appreciated thankyou

gloucester north has had its revision i believe

when the revision was implemented, part of the national agreement stipulated that you would have to use the tools provided. hct, lwt for example

all private cars are banned once the delivery methods revision has been implemented

use your car at your peril as royal mail have withdrawn the third party insurance and you will find yourself on a cohduct code

forget the use of your car, its irrelevant now

Nearly correct bro, but I don't know if you are aware of the following paragraph which can be found in the Removal of Private Cars On Delivery. Version 1.0 Final dated 1st December 2009.

What isolated cases may exist where Royal Mail would retain private car use?

There may be a limited number of cases where it is suitable for an individual to retain their private car for use on delivery. DOMs may exceptionally need to address short term operational issues or ongoing health problems typically covered within DDA (for example, where the use of a personally adapted vehicle presents a more suitable option for the individual and supports inclusivity in the workplace). All cases will be assessed on an individual basis.

How do you deal with a situation where an individual is refusing to stop using their own private car?

People should be made aware that using private cars on delivery, without permission can have very serious consequences. Any disregard for this, as with any other Health & Safety rules, may result in disciplinary action and will be managed using BAU processes. Individuals will not be covered by the Royal Mail’s insurance in circumstances of accidents/incidents on duty.

Basically as keithposty has intimated there will at some stage be an end to the use of private cars being used on delivery with the current proviso of a few exceptions.

One manager did say depending on what happens I may not be on delivery tomorrow.
I have seen them give a day off to someone who left mail in his van so i'm looking on the bright side.

Thanks for your replies, as I stated in my first post though, i had been to 3 different offices and seen people including an IB do it. I just didn't think anything of it.

He will be looking for a lifeboat but you can guarantee he won't make room for you in it.
