Part timer meeting free

Part time, 9am start. Been in the job about 10 months. I've had four huddles/team talk meetings in all that time. Three were to announce lasping. Once I have been called off the floor to a formal meeting to get me to sign up with the union. People say things like I should know that or this we had a meeting yada yada. I know nothing about what the managers have said. No working instructions or plans for the day. Is this normal? Is this against some law or other? It seems poor not know what's going on, nor learning anything - I do guess the meetings are a waste of time. Any other part timers in this same situation? Is it a daily thing for 'worktime' meetings to happen? And what are they for?

It is not unusual. I usually walk into work to find that WTL has already happened. How can they hold meetings before half the workforce starts?? Been banging my head against a brick wall trying to get it changed. Only good thing about it is you wont of signed to say you have attended, so when something goes wrong ask them to prove that you were told and watch them squirm.

They are supposed to be weekly in theory but happen once in a blue moon in practice they are mostly pointless but they is also health and safety announcements like its snowing outside or watch out for dogs etc we are normally asked to sign something to say we attended.

Thanks for the replies. Yes it's good to know I've missed signing anything for later action to be taken. One problem with having a lack of information is not being able to argue my corner. For example asking for a walk log. Our office has none that i'm aware of for any walk. I asked a manager for one and it's caused difficulties for me along the lines of I'm a trouble maker. I thought maybe these had been covered in a meeting. Is there a set list of meetings that need to be covered in meeting? May be a list sent from on high. I can't believe our managers have the brain to rub two sticks together never mind foresight enough to work out and plan meetings.

Just do what you do and dont worry, if anything goes wrong its the managers fault.

You should be invited to WTL Meetings which are scheduled for once per week. Time is (or should be) set aside in your contracted hours to attend these informative meetings. You are a Royal Mail employee and should not be treated differently just because you are on part-time hours. The business benefits from you attending WTL sessions. A quiet word with the top manager in your office is required. Let him or her know you wish to be included....

Can you decline going to a WTL meeting? For instance, ours are scheduled for a light Tuesday each week, if he gathers all part timers on a heavy Wednesday because he's too idle to do it twice on the Tuesday can you so no because it will take me over my hours?

No because no one else in the office cuts off. I dont want to be the first because our DOM has already said anyone who causes him problems will find he can cause twice as many for . He actually went round today while we were prepping telling us "nobody is indispensible" - nice to feel valued isn't it. Can you decline these meetings?

And your rep and others especially permanent colleagues are happy to let this low like c*** f**k cretin carry on like that?

He said it to the permenants who are so far up his arse they agreed with him (makes him feel big thats why he said it to them) and we have no rep. Great at our place.

I'll add bullying to that. He needs a comeuppance and hopefully someone will do it soon. Bullying managers are the worst kind of people and the Union and Royal Mail HAVE TO DO SOMETHING about it soon as its dragging the company down.

Royal Mail are complicit in this as they bang the drum about OPGs bullying but do the 3 wise monkeys act when it comes to managers.
