1st stage warning
I have just received a 1st stage warning for having more than 14 days off in a 12 month period and have an interview tomorrow following this, my dates are as follows.
25.01.2011 - 3 days
24.10.2011 - 4 days
14.01.2012 - 8 days
I feel my manager has been a little unfair since it was only a day that I went over in that period but I guess he is doing things by the book. What I want to know is when sick leave begins in the 12 month period and when it ends (for eg 01.01.2011 - 31.12.2011) just as annual leave begins in march and ends in march the following year.
If there is no specific period to when the sick leave begins then my 1st stage warning is unjustified?!
Please advise

Re: 1st stage warning
It's a rolling 12 month period so the 12 months started on 25.01.2011 and would have ended on 25.01.2012 had you not breached the trigger point.
It's not your manager who triggers the stage it's done automatically by the system.
Your manager will decide whether to issue it or not.

Re: 1st stage warning
Unless your manager is from a different planet and is immune from the pressure being put on him from above, he will issue the stage warning.
Stage warnings are cheap and each case is not judged on its merit.
When are they reviewing this quasi attendance procedure that isn't punitive?

Shrug it off and don't worry, most people have had or are on a stage 1, it means absolutley nothing. Stay healthy for the next 12 months and you'll be removed from the procedure.

Re: 1st stage warning
what pisses me off most about a stage warning is that you cannot appeal against them. so even if a manager is wrong when issuing it, then his/her wrong decision may as well be right. as there is no reversal procedure.,,,,murderers and rapists are entitled to an appeal. alas royal mail workers arent. its going against your basic human rights.SexyLegs wrote:Shrug it off and don't worry, most people have had or are on a stage 1, it means absolutley nothing. Re: 1st stage warning
HQ should be questioning the sickness procedure, its getting ridiculous. I'm back on a Stage 2.....got a Stage 1 for having an operation caused by an AOD then triggered the Stage 2 for incurring 2 absences in the 6 months, 1 of those was due to the ongoing problem with the injury. In 3 years I've had a total of 5 days including the Sundays off that was'nt due to my injury. Beginning to wonder if I'm better off out of this firm.

Why are you being issued a stage if it's due to an AOD. In the last 4 years i have had 167 days off due to op's and hospital appointments ( Just checked my absence report ) and have only just come back 2 weeks ago after after being off from the end of october for anther 64 Days on top of that.
How many stage warnings have i had, Not one as it's all been AOD related.
Get onto your Branch and see what they can do because somthings not right !

Re: 1st stage warning
All Stage 1 & 2's seem to be issued in my office, irrelevant of circumstances. Rep just tells me when it hits a Stage 3 we'll deal with it then because they have'nt followed procedure. But its not a good feeling sitting on a Stage 2 worrying that you could hit a Stage 3 if something unfortunate happens.Geezer wrote:StormStormproof HQ should be questioning the sickness procedure, its getting ridiculous. Unless you have a bout of flu (stage 2) and hurt your back bending down to get some cornflakes in the supermarket (Dismissed)SexyLegs wrote:Shrug it off and don't worry, most people have had or are on a stage 1, it means absolutley nothing. Tell the Rep to get onto Branch and sort it out. They tried all this crap in my area and the Branch put a stop to it.
You need to keep pushing and going higher and higher if need be because what RM are doing is just B&H.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

AOD are normally discounted for sick absence purposes likewise disability, if the manager issues a stage take out a grievanceGeezer wrote:StormStormproof HQ should be questioning the sickness procedure, its getting ridiculous.
