Has Everybody Given Up???

Post by Running Man »

Strange title I know but having visited this site several times each week for over three years, I have noticed that the POL site has become extremely uninteresting over the last few weeks. There seems to be plenty of people viewing the posts but not much 'meaty' discussion of the many things that aggravate the life out of people on a daily basis.

One question......why?

I can see only three possible reasons for this.

1. Everybody is extremely happy in POL at the moment. (Yeah right!)
2. People are sick of 'banging their heads against a brick wall'.
3. The lack of 'meaty' discussion to which I refer has caused regular posters to simply not bother.

Any ideas out there and is anything bugging you or your office?

Come the end of September we are all fu@@ed.

No need to discuss.

We will be on far less money, £11 an hour will become a thing of the past,

or, we will turn in one day and the shutters will be down a la Woolworths.

It is inevitable.

If your dying of cancer, you don't just sit there talking about it... you "get on with it" until you are dead.

We are just "getting on with it".

The only slight glimmer of hope I can see, and I emphasise slight, is that no other entity will want us and we will somehow remain in place by default.

What a 'story'...

Why do some people like spreading doom and gloom when they clearly do not know the facts?

Well actually Running man, for me it's answer number 1. Strange as that may seem, the way I see it I having nothing to moan about, I'm enjoying going to work again after a change in management. Yes I'm sure we probably aren't going to be around for much longer, but I would have left by now if things hadn't improved in our office.

Because if "the facts" were actually the opposite of what has been posted, why are POL and CWU not shouting it from the hills??? The last to know will be us front line mugs while everyone else "in the know" positions themselves better.
It's human nature.. Self preservation.

If I had the chance to save my neck over hundreds of others... I would do the same.

Well I'm glad to have stirred up a response.

And it's actually quite refreshing that The Old Girl is relatively happy at work now that she has a new manager. (But that shouldn't stop her feeling the general doom and gloom!!!)

Only kidding. Is there anybody else out there? Has financial specialist any thoughts on the matter?

So what are the facts? The only salient fact I know is that the 'Crown Network Guarantee' expires in September, which means I could be out of work in October. What am I supposed to be doing, leaping around with unalloyed glee?

I have decided to stay out of negative posts ;) I don't know what the future holds, I tend to think that people are being over-dramatic about the future of POL, but I wasn't here for the last round of office closures. This is perhaps why I assume it will never happen and why I can be so blase about it..

I know there will be some sort of trade-off for our last payrise and my guess was that it was going to be the loss of sick pay until after 3 days, and things like that but I really don't have a clue. I hope my office stays open in its current form, I really don't want to be left without a job in a current climate. I understand that there are plenty who want paid off but I hope they think of their colleagues who are starting their careers as well as they think of themselves wanting as easy out.

Could it be a symptom of poor communication from POL and the CWU - just putting that out there because our side in Letters certainly think that Royal Mail and The CWU both could improve in this.
