Walk sorted mail

We've suddenly been told that we'll be getting our mail sorted by address i.e. sequenced very shortly.

Was wondering how this has effected other offices in terms of time. We haven't done our full revision yet (not sure why) but in the short term I can't see anything else than rather a lot of posties twiddling their thumbs for a goodly proportion of the morning till we're let out.

Yes, walk sequenced mail is a snide tool used by management in order to be able to get you, to do more, for exactly the same money you are on now.
Very proud to say, it doesn't, never has, worked with me.

Walk sequenced mail is actually a godsend, it reduces prep time by probably half, I'm a reserve so it means no more struggling on frames I don't know.

Yes it increases the amount of extra work you can do but if you play the game and do the job properly, start on time, take breaks etc etc it's not that much worse, having said that we are not at P&L yet, planners are still looking at the duties but I really like WSM, it's made my ife much easier.

Others will disagree but that's my take on it

I like WSM and later start but I don't like working longer hours on saturday or doing absorbing on saturday.

Have to admit that I'm not 100% sure what Lapsing is but is it were instead of walk being put up for OT it get spread out between all the walks in the office?

Don't think theres going to be enough of this to cover ALL office walks going to time. Also how do people get to the lapse then on to there walk? Can a central person be taken off their signed for walk to give a known lapse duty?

As you can see there are a number of things people are worried about especially as we have a VERY enthusiastic DOM.

Can that include kicking a walk holder off their walk and what IF the office is out of area?

Like Sexy Legs states, for Reserves it's a god send also for people throwing out rounds out when performing IPS it enables the round to get throwed out at pretty much the same speed as the regulars, which is no bad thing in my opinion...... But as a regular duty holder who has had a few years to get to know the fitting I find it only saves me only a few minutes (generally get around 3 trays which used to come walk sorted) as with the practice i have had I can throw my round off quickly anyway....... Leave reserves have a raw deal in my opinion as they actually have more to do than duty holders and are not experienced on the duty which takes longer to throw out, and then they have the walk log to read and absorb to help ensure their safety,where bag drops are etc etc. However no extra time is allocated to allow them to overcome these disadvantages. In my opinion they should be off the IPS 15 to 20 mins early than regular duty holders, whats the point of walk holders putting a load of info into a walk log regards safety etc if reserves have no time to read it......

Hardly saves any time, especially when the lazy gits in the MC cant be arsed running it through the WS machines, leaving us with just as much IPS to do as before.

They have even started 'disguising' mail as being walk sequenced, sending it to us with 'walk sequenced' labels in the trays... only for us to find it still needs IPSing.

Funny how this always seems to happen on a saturday in particular.

Its rubbish for 90% of the office who know their duties blindfold.

More IPS not less, but manager wont see that and has 4 of us on the primary and wonders why it takes forever.

No.

If there is a vacant duty that is usually fair game tho... Covering annual leave...

This is just team working" that we fought F***ing hard for years to resist for many years but here we are doing just that under the banner of "absorption"

Our office absorbs/lapses 9 duties everyday and has been for over 2 years now.

Walk sequenced mail is a prelude in preparation for P&L.

Well they won't be twiddling their thumbs for long The Full revisions Delivery Methods and Indoor will highlight any excess staff available and what'll happen then I wonder.

We striked because of stuff like that that in 2009........................i think they are still discussing the abuse of P&M.
