need some advice please,got a hospital appointment for a scan this friday at 9.30am takes 30 min to get there so need to set off at 9 am will be finished by 10 and can be back at work by 10 30 am.i have asked for a day in leui or at worst me to come to work at 6.30am then leave for appointment as above and come back to work to finish rest of working day and finish on time of 2.15pm.my line manager has said i cant have day in leui but i can leave,come back but will have to take my full duty out resulting in a finish time of 3ish but i have to be somewhere after my finish time of 2 .15pm.she also said i could swap my day off but have got another appointment on my day off so this wouldnt work.
could any one tell me what my rights are, and what i am obliged to do and what the procedure should be.

Procedure is to book appointments out of work time, I think your lino is being decent in allowing you to cut off and then resume, to then say you're finishing on time is effectively asking for a free 50 mins/hours pay, which is unreasonable.

Have you tried to change the time of the scan? In my experience it's best to try that, if it can't be changed then see if a colleague will do part of the round for you so you're finished at 2.15, obviously you'll need to do part of their round on another day to compensate, perhaps offer to do that part of someone elses round on the saturday, an earlier finish for someone on saturday might get some takers.

Offer to go in an hour early on another day and do some IPS, give them something back, all you're doing is taking with nothing going back the other way, do you see what I mean? Good Luck..........

I'm having scans at the moment for a bladder problem and I'm due to have an MRI scan for a knee problem but because I get notified some weeks in advance I take the letter to my DOM (and yes I have one of the good ones) who just arranges my day off accordingly.Being a reserve,it hasn't caused too many problems at all.
