Bully in the office

Hi This is my first post we have a major problem at our delivery office with corruption and physical and verbal bullying. We have this real nasty piece of work at the DO but the managers constantly defend and side with him his latest confrontation with a postman he wrapped his hands around his neck and screamed at him for blocking his van in the yard by accident, after a small internal investigation it was quickly swept under the rug. Another postman faces physical bullying on a daily basis from the same individual. He slaps pulls and twists his nipples belly and chest it may sound funny but it really does go to far, it really is heart breaking to witness especially the red soreness and welts that form on his body but people are just to afraid to stand up to him. The main reason no action is taken is because as he puts it "The DO couldent manage without him" as he organises the evening collections and was the former Union rep for the office. Most shockingly he received thousands of pounds from the DOM's Christmas bonus and owes hundreds to the collection kitty as he has "financial problems" 

Just looking for advice as even though I am not a victim I cannot stand by and not voice my concerns as I feel it is very wrong

The DOM basically needs to be told that he either does something about it, or it goes above him. And you all, as an office, need to stand up to this guy, and help this individual that's being bullied.

Does no one in the office have any balls? You're adults not little boys.It's the whole frigging office against this guy. Straight to the Area CWU rep and Sector manager with your complaint. Also the B&H hotline. You don't need to be bullied personally. And how the hell can he receive thousands of pounds from the Managers bonus? I've heard nothing of the sort in my life in Royal Mail?????? I think that's utter garbage and an office rumour. Owes hundreds to an office kitty? What is an office kitty? You mean petty cash? If so IB should be called in to investigate this.

Yeah petty cash I know it sounds absolutely unreal but there's alot more he gets away with that I didn't mention and I know if I stood upto him on my own no one would back me up. And it's also a case of proving it especially as he has gotten away with so much in the past.

As far as I know none

Put a B & H complaint form in on behalf of the ones he picks on. At the same time put a stage 2 grievance in about the manager ignoring bullying. If you realy want to stir it, put a health and safety complaint in (in writing) about managment ignoring bullying. I took that route once and I was crapping myself for weeks. I knew I was in the right though and it forced managment to sack the office bully - that was and still is the highlight of my career.

Sorry to hear about this arsehole mate.At the end of the day he should not bring his problems too work,as he we all have our own personl problems of some kind.End of the day he tried to choke someone,i would not give a feck if ex union rep or Vinnie Jones,my swift reply would be a knee too his family allowance.
Don't be intimitaded by him.Try speaking too your dom,and let him or she know that,your next call will be the IBs if nothing is being done.Cos if they do come in,then i'll guarentee your DOM will be shitting buttons.Would the DOM want to risk his/her job for someone else?

These problems never go away by themselves.

Other people may say stand up to him yourself but in my experience this seldom works unless your 6’6” tall.

I would go with the bullying and harassment helpline mentioning your office and what’s been going on. I don’t think you need to give your name. They will follow this up.

I think I would then send a un-signed letter to your area manager (doms boss). This will pee off your dom but it sounds like he has lost control anyway.

Other than sticking your neck out (a long way) I think that’s prob all you can do unless other people will back you up

Now heres a thought,if hes' been giving these cash hand outs from the manager too this bully.One cannot help think that.Is the manager being blackmailed in any way by him.Too sweep thse incidents under the carpet? Leave to yous too decide

Re: Sticking you neck out or getting others to back you up - Thats why a health & safety complaint can be better - you dont have to stick your neck out (it should be in confidence) and you dont need witnesses/people to back you up. It is down to managment to investigate and say either that your right -and the bully gets sacked - or your wrong - this workplace is a healthy and safe place to work. All the pressure is then on managment to sort the problem out.

This post has alot of things that can not be true ie the xmas bonus for a start, no such thing! Is this post a wind up? If it is its not funny!
