Hi Guys ,
At my office we are in phase 0 , my main concern is the length of walks using HCT's , i worked at another office for a few weeks and walks were 12 to 14 miles a day , i felt this was much too far a not sustainable long term.
I wondered what the average walking distance with HCT's is at other offices and what is manageable and what is too long ?

Re: Revision
HCT are to be used within a mile radius of the office and are normally covered by hybrid duties

Re: Revision
Two HCT duties I have done have been about nine miles on average. They both start a couple of miles from the office but is only about a mile from the end of the duty.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Revision
Fair enough this is a management slide but it shows the average speed of the HCT including delivery time and attendance calls as 1.41mph and it shows overall distance covered in 3hrs45 as 5.3miles.
At that speed it would take 10hrs to do 14miles.
Something isn't right here.
Even at "travel speed" with no delivery or stopping for anything it would take nearly 4 hours.

Thanks for the info. fishtank
So as i am led to believe the longest you should be out using an HCT is 5 hrs , so the maximum walk mileage wise should be 7.5 miles approx,

Re: Revision
It would be very rough, these are only guidelines and terrain would play a part but i would be surprised if anyone could physically do more than 8 miles in 5hrs delivering mail properly with an HCT.Blue Nose wrote:Thanks for the info. fishtank

Posties are terrible at judging distance, most guys will tell you they walk 20 miles a day.

Re: Revision
No idea on exact mileage, but I'm very familar with 4-5 hour delivery span if whole walk done by the book (weight off shoulder, HCT left unlocked only in line of sight, never locked to an immoveable object and out of sight for more than 5 mins).
