It's not physical in a sense that would exclude women as such though DGP...it's more a stamina thing than a pure strength thing and that isn't gender specific.
Maybe women are less likely to not have a f***ing clue what to do with their life and fall into the RM "i'll just do 6 months and leave" trap.

If you take out HR and Processing i would think the national figure for deliveries would be even lower.

I really don't think a lot of women have the stamina for it. Sexist comment but I'm allowed :) Not saying all women, but a lot of them. Hopefully it will become easier using the trolleys. I was one of those who joined because it fitted in with school hours, thank god I got out when I did. If I knew then what I know now, maybe I wouldn't be sat here in agony and would have gone for a nice office job instead, instead I can't even sit at a desk for too long now, blah!


Don't get me wrong there are a lot of women out there who do the job well and make great posties, I would just recommend they get their knees/thighs x rayed before they start delivery

We have 1.5 out of 41 the .5 is cause she's either on maternity leave or on the sick i kid you not, out of the last 6 Christmases she's been there for ONE!!
But i do think we should have more cause ones that have left were hard working and good fun.

There were only 3 in our DO out of about 60, even less in some of the larger DOs I've worked in. However, in one of the smaller rural DOs I worked in, it was pretty much 50/50 but the rounds are rurals with vans so not as physical...

At the risk of going off on a totaly different angle on this, i would like to say.
I thought the introduction of the "Dutch Model", was supposed to introduce more women into the delivery workforce.

There was an idea around 5 years ago that more women could be encouraged into the job on a part-time 9-2 basis that would fit well around childcare....that was the theory.
In practice management were and still are incapable of grasping the fact that if you have childcare commitments you can't start "the odd hour early" and you can't work over your time "just this once to help us out".
The word commitments should have been the clue.
The whole thing fizzled out mainly because it's a male dominated management structure made worse by the fact that they are really quite thick.

If you were serious about it you could easily find a solution to issues like this.
One solution might be banking days just like the wallington system to use during school holidays.
It needs a progressive,21st century employer...so it would be doomed from the start.
