weve got planners in planning even a union man planning but they dont know what duty options we want it could be 7 hr 48 min duties or 8 hr 45 duties so how can they plan walks without asking what duty options we want ?

and i will totally disagree, the planner in our office has disputed the outputs of the tools with his boss and after meetings with the Dom Dsm and senior planners he has managed to half the number of walks they said could be taken out and reduced the amount of hours the IWT says can be saved as well, he has said he doesnt expect to be a planner much longer as he will probably get booted out for his actions, yes the majority are yes men/women who will say the tools are the tools and we have to go with what they say, get your reps to dispute things and go through the IR framework to delay as long as you can

We've got the planners in our office the now, just awaiting to see what a mess they make as we are one of the biggest offices in our area and I seen their competent work in Dundee East early last year.

THE dom does a poll with the one to one meetings with the staff

if you have not had this then ask why not or ask when you will be have the one to ones

When the planners start pulling you into their temporary office to review walks, make sure absolutely everything is covered, do not allow the planners to wizz you through at lightspeed. Be ready to amend things like...

Sequence issues (where it is practical to deliver to one delivery point before another, regardless of how it currently is on the frame or in program)
Delivery point(s) missing
Houses of Multiple Occupancy
Security issues (will a HCT be left longer than 2/5/10 minutes locked up to deliver to a block of flats, especially when some flats have regular attendence packets)
Houses with pathways that link up the pavement to the door at angles (means more metres need input)
Walks with businesses: Most verge on being attendence calls, the planners can put in extra metres from centre of road to back of shop, to help offset time it might take to be able to safely pass over mail to staff/volunteers
Roads/paths with inclines
Access stairways
Number of floors to flat blocks
etc. etc.

"Planners" one and only task is to reduce staffing levels. Simple as.

Had to laugh when I mentioned to a planner that I couldn't drive along this road on my round because they had put bollards across the road about 2 years previously.I would have to make a 1 mile detour around the whole estate to get there.
The planner said " dont be daft , the computer says you can drive up there"
Thats what you have to put up with with these planners, its laughable and I still take the detour 6 months later but it means less delivery of letters
