Advice needed urgently

Our office is currently going through resign proceedure, it got to my turn and there was only 1 full time walking duty left, which i felt was not for me, so i signed for the position of full time reserve walker.

i am the last full time walker on a permanent contract and i dont drive. i have worked for Royal mail for 12 years.

Last week i came into work and was told on mailroom floor in front of other staff that i was either being transfered or i had to cut my hours down to 30 as she only wanted drivers as reserves.

This wasnt pointed out to me at the point of me signing for reserve other wise i would have took the lastfull time duty.

Can she do this?

i have involved my union who is looking into it, butam obviously concerned.

can anyone help or offer advice?

If the reserve duty you picked was a driving duty you cannot pick it because you cannot drive therefore you haven't had a valid pick therefore the repick goes back to your pick.
If your manager doesn't agree then ask her why you were allowed to pick an unsuitable duty....

No the National agreement states that Royal Mail cannot force you to reduce you hours. You have contacted your rep but if you don't get any joy there go to the next tier for assistance. The resign should have stated what was available prior to you signing. Good luck,

The next time you challenge her make sure you have your rep with you.
You should not be under pressure to accept any of these options.
You are entitled to a pick with all of the information available.

Actually our day off cover boss is a female and is by far and away the best we have. She gives and gets respect, everyone will go the extra mile for her because she will for us. She knows who is taking the piss and deals with it, she also knows who works hard and that when they say they can't complete or absorb, that they are being straight with her.

I don't think the gender of a manager has any bearing on it. If they are capable, fair and have a strong yet flexible character then they'll make a good manager. If they're not they will fail and drag us down with them. Unfortunately there are far too many managers in Royal Mail who think having a forceful character and approach with subordinates, and a fawning one with Seniors is the right approach, unfortunately they have never been told any different.

I think it does.
I think immature men make far worse managers than immature women.
Both are potentially useless but there is that macho-bullshit-playground thing that men tend to use more than women to cover their inadequacies.
