trolleys and parcels

Hi folks
I have been a member of this forum a while without posting.
Anyway my revision is due to start shortly and I'm having to use a trolley as my duty is next to the office.
the problem is i have never been shown a demo video about how to use a trolley nor has my manager told me how to use one. He has told me just to do my best.
I was put on a different duty at Xmas time and used a trolley, I basically parked it where my boxes are and then used my bag.
the problem is the van driver is telling me that I have to take all my parcels including the oversized ones the van driver currently takes.
where do I stand on this?
Any advice would be gratefully received

You will have to take bigger parcels than normal but obviously you can't take them if they don't fit in your trolley.

if you have oversize ones , throw them out to the driver still, but this time the driver is your buddy. he will have a bit more time to drive it round.

Firstly if you haven't been given any training on the trolley you shouldn't be using it !.Although the actual operation of the trolley isn't rocket science , you should have been through the Safe System Of Work(SSOW) and the security aspects of using the trolley i.e. not letting it be out of your Line Of Sight at any time. Your manager will have signed off that ALL staff using the trolley have been trained on it and been coached on the SSOW regarding it. Perhaps a wee hint that you haven't been trained properly and so won't be liable for and conduct issues relating to its use might remedy the situation. Your driver is supposed to be delivering any oversized parcels, SD's you won't get to before 1pm as well as doing their own park and loops which have been adjusted to factor in these additional duties.

Do not be tempted to deliver any of the duty by pouch, even if it is literally right by the office, the assigned equipment for the round is a trolley (presumeably HCT). If it is HCT, there ought to still be a van duty for that section, where you are perfectly within your rights to offload anything that exceeds 40x40x10cm (needs confirming by others. think there is an alternative dimension to that is more cube-like) or exceeds 1.25Kg back to the driving duty.

As said already, you should get official training on HCT use including the security aspects. An unlocked trolley should always be in line of sight, if not it should be locked to an immoveable object, even a locked trolley (that has not been emptied) should not be out of sight for more than 2/5/10 minutes depending upon the secuirty assessment of the walk/area. Do not be tempted to lock up the HCT and do heavy loops by pouch, push the trolley round and lock up for individual delivery points or complexes where necessary. This might mean the walk is too big for your contract time, in which case choose to either get extended delivery authorised, or approach your manger (ideally before leaving office) and ask them what they want to do with the excess that you do not want to deliver past your contract finish time. Do not "fudge" delivery to make it appear the walk is achievable if it clearly is not...

I really appreciate the feedback folks just one last question. Should my manager explain to me how this is supposed to be done. Where I am supposed to park the trolley and what parts and how much I should carry.

Not him specifically, he can delegate it, but I would say its certainly his responsibility that he should have in place procedures to train you and explain the policies so that you can apply them correctly.
