No VCPs, only the police can set up check points and even then you don't let them search your van, take them back to the DO and let the DOM sort it out.

if you are entering MOD property there will be a sign before you enter warning you about vehicular searches. They have every right to search ANY vehicle. I in the past have searched even police cars !!!! If yhey are on a public road they will have the right when accompanied by civilian police.

From what I remember from when I was in yes they can under certain circumstances.

Yes they can be if Martial Law has been introduced. Extremely unlikely, and only with a Police Officer present.

Yes if you are entering a Military Establishment - but in most case they would be looking at the body and underside of the vehicle for a vehicle borne IED (Improvised Explosive Device) They can also search the cargo compartment but not actually open any mail or bags unless they have specific intelligence.

No they can't anywhere else without an act of parliament.

When I delivered to our local barracks once they were doing a vehicle search. I got out of the van preparing for them to check everything then one of the guys got a message over his radio to say they were'nt allowed to check my vehicle. So they just done the normal sweep with the large dentist mirror

Sorry I should have been clearer, I mean a checkpoint when entering MOD property. What happened was one of our drivers was detained for about 20 mins while they went over his whole vehicle including engine bay and load space, at the time he was still on the highway and not MOD land. Given that we are told if stopped by the police and they want to search the vehicle we either have to wait for a manager to attend or drive to the nearest RM site and do the search there, I don't see why the military should have the right to be going through the mail. This is also just normal service personel not MPs or MOD police
