Just wanted to know how the buying holidays thing worked.

If I am coming out with £230 a week and I want to buy two weeks holiday for this year how will that affect my wage each week?

Does it come out each week or is it a lump sum or do you effectively just have unpaid holiday?

the money comes out weekly and it is not that much. You get the forms from your manager and you stay in it (extra 2 weeks holidays) until you opt out. fulltimers I think is around 10-12 pound a week

You've kind of answered your own question, you don't actually buy 2 weeks, you get 22.5 days anyway so you buy 7.5 days which takes you up to 6 weeks in total, cost is roughly £10 - £12 per week for a full timer as the other poster states so cost to you will be about 70% of that, roughly £7 -£9 a week, well worth it when you consider Union subs are £3 odd a week!!!

also worth while doing it this year, we're getting that 3.5% extra in april, so in terms of money in your bank, you would end up with 6 weeks holiday and no less money going in each week

Just look into how the purchased leave is allocated at your unit before you decide...... If it's the same as in our office (you pick on the leave list after all allocated leave has been chosen), you will only end up with the dregs, and no chance of getting 2 or 3 days together set aside a week !!!!! If your okay with that then it is a fine system, but I would just do my homework before I commit myself personally......

Just book the hols asap, cos how much you pay each week you can have all that time away from work, also if you do overtime tax man takes less, its only equivilent to 1 hour a week!!!! JUST DO IT

tax man takes 20 percent income tax and then national insurance
