Grievance procedure

Post by prowler »

I'm thinking of lodging a grievance against my line manager for unfair treatment.
Just wondering what the correct procedure is. Any help appreciated. Currently trying
to contact my area rep but he's not available.

Prowler, just been through this. Before you even do this I would recommend that you have diarised everything that has happened, preferably some of these events have been witnessed by other members of staff, and you are absolutely 100% willing to take this through to a conclusion. If you do not have a history of events then I suggest that you defer and start diarising straight away. The grievance procedure also states that you should try and work things out with the Lino, so you may wish to ask for a meeting with him, with a colleague or cwu rep present to take notes. Tell him that you are bothered by his actions and that you want him to stop immediately or you will take this further through the grievance procedures. Hopefully it will stop, but if he is a total prat he will carry on and then you must be prepared to take matters further. To do this you ask for a grievance stage 2 application form. The form is reasonably easy to complete, and include a statement of the events you have diarised, and what you want the outcome to be. Send this off to his line manager (usually the DOM). Now in Royal Mails procedures regarding grievances these should be heard within 5 working days, and you should be provided with an outcome 5 working days after that. THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN. They will do everything they can to delay interviewing you, they cannot stand or deal with grievances. You must be very persistent and involve the area cwu rep and keep badgering them until your complaints are heard and dealt with. Good luck, if you have a genuine case don,t be frightened or put off by delays and dont let this Lino get away with it. If I can be of further help please feel free to Pm me.

Real sorry to be so negative...... Don't Bother !!!!!!!!

Have recently been through the procedure and took it to stage 3, as Lincox said they will not stick to the procedure and will throw every obsticle in your way to discourage you and make the process as stressful for you as they can.....

The outcome of my grievance amounted to nothing, the appeal manager was horrified how I had been treated which realy encouraged me, he went on to find 5 points out of the 6 I raised in my favour and upheld the grievance :Very Happy . He then gave his reccomendations and that's all they are :mad :mad . No retraining for the Lino, nothing on his record, no conduct code for him, no B & H charge nothing !!!!! He was just reccomended not to do it again :no no :no no. So he just carries on with other staff and me when it takes his fancy.....
My advice to you would be go down the B & H path if this is applicable and HR will allow you to, this I understand is dealt with more seriously and will go on his record.......
Again sorry to have been negative but that was my experience of this joke of a procedure.....

Although i've had a negative experience with the grievance procedure as in it was never heard or investigated then I would still say to anybody to at least go through the motions...you never know when it comes in handy to show that YOU at least complained.

If more than your good self has been or is being effected by your DIM ask area rep to get the ball rolling with JPS.

This way someone from outside the business comes and interviews all concerned then gives there conclusion unlike the grievance set up at the mo were a DIMS fellow DIM hears and concludes the outcome.

agree with you 100% i had history with my dim luckly for him he had his manager ,HR idiots , appeals manager ,two fabricated witness statements, (from the office a***wipes) i received in my opinion crap advice from cwu and those not very good solicitors paid for by cwu and you guessed right i lost my job the one thing that really gets me going is these people collectively have stolen 17yrs contributions to my pension and i will do whatever i have to" legally of course"typical actions of large concerns who think they can walk all over you all i can say to these people is DUTY OF CARE owed to all employees and paying members .That feels so much better :no no

Only ever been involved in one at that was when I first started for R/M the DIM concerned was moved office and told to stay away from our office .I dont really know the ins an outs of it due to being a new start at the time but every member of staff was interviewed at great lengths.

The only good thing about them is the person interviewing has no connection to the DIM concerned unlike how it operates now.

Ask your area rep what JPS stands for if im wrong let me know what it stands for lol.

REMEMBER PEOPLE

EVEN THOSE WHO HAVE HAD A NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE OF THE GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE

to go to an ET, all internal procedures need to have been followed prior to an ET1 CLAIM

it is not a good idea to 'not bother' with the grievance as its for your protection in the long run

I do understand what you have said Keith, and you are obviously correct.
I just got so frustrated going through the stages, I found it stressful and quite a bit of mine and my representatives time went into it and to get justice I almost got sacked with the investigating we did as a lot of people were made to feel very uncomfortable with our findings. Then to finally have pretty much everything found in my favour by the stage 3 appeals manager and all the perpetrator got was a recommendation not to do it again to be quite honest I found P..s Poor. I don't want to go into detail but how I was set up would have resulted in dismissal for the DOM in most other workplaces.......
But as I have said you are right :Very Happy

I know that before you can go to an ET you have to exhaust the company,s internal procedures. However if these are being purposely delayed by managers and they are purposely not adhering to the company time standards for dealing with grievances, can someone go to acas and either get these managers to do their jobs and can acas fasttrack you to an ET?
