SIGN IN & OUT

Can someone tell me what is the legal requirement regarding signing in & out.

At the moment we are being threaten with the conduct code if we fail to sign in, time we're actually ready to leave, time we actually leave, 1st letter through door, last letter through, time we arrive back at office, actual time we are suppose to be back at office,time we finish & lastly, time we actually finish.

As you can see it's quite an epilog.

I totally agree with signing in & out but all the rest

I 'm thinking about asking if that to has been built into the duties just like everything else.

Not sure about the other stuff though,do you have to take a note book out with you?

Not a notebook but a bed, backpack, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea & most importantly compass to find my way back !!!!

I understand the H&S & the signing in & out but the bit I'm a little bit hissed about is the other bits & being threaten with the conduct code if they are not filled out.

I only ever used to sign in and out whenever I entered and left the building for H&S/fire purposes. Anything else they could blow out their arses. I've got better things to worry about than what time specifically I put the first/last bit of soggy paper through someone's finger ripping door hole.

At our office they only ask us to sign in, They never ask us to sign out.

Sign in and then sign out...............everything else can be made up to suit those other times, they're never going to know the true figures.

If i remember correctly signing in/out sheets were brought in as part of the Working Time Directive because businesses had to show they could keep an accurate check of worked hours.
I remember at the time being told that this would never be used against us with regard to the conduct code and there certainly wasn't any first letter/last letter nonsense involved.
Linking it to H&S is a bit of a red herring because you should never use a system like this to determine who's on site and who isn't....it's far too unreliable.

We had all that sign in out and then back out when we finished. Just go along with it, they'll get bored after a couple of weeks and come up with some other total waste of time brainwave. My LM's are getting very attached to the laminator and the guilotine. Nothing like signs and information overload. There is even a laminated sign where the noticeboard use to be to say the noticeboard has been moved

A THREAT of conduct coding you is surely tantamount to harassment, and should only be used in a case where you have failed to carry out valid instructions on a regular basis.

Also how do you record the weights that go on the vans?

I forgot that one yes pouch weights used to be on there as well can't remember though if it's still on the multi choice one but there is a bit on the end which asks "any issues" thats the best one which I do tick every day & guess what the dimmy wits never ask

The HSE was concerned that sustainable compliance was achieved and the main change is that staff don't have to record 100% of their pouch weights daily on the old record sheets (where they were previously used), except for new starters. This was part of the trial programme and was based on the views of HSE. It was found that 100% self recording of delivery pouch weights wasn't a sustainable solution, and wasn't ensuring consistent compliance to pouch weight limits as staff in many Delivery Offices inspected were still taking out overweight pouches. HSE Inspectors found that no checks on pouch weights were being undertaken in some Delivery Offices and in others where pouches were weighed and found to be excessive no action was taken. Where record sheets were kept, Pouch Weights didn't always tally with record sheets or record sheets were incomplete or not used in some locations.

As such a pouch weight sampling strategy and checking system was developed which went away from individuals weighing and recording their own pouch weights on record sheets and instead introduced a random sampling process whereby typically, sampling will be carried out by management on a daily basis with in the range of 5 -15% of all the walks at each Delivery Office. Under the process, as a minimum, the DOM will ensure that a sample of 5 -15% of all Delivery Rounds or a minimum 2 - 4 full delivery walks per day will have all pouches weighed, checked and recorded on the new pro-forma provided by the Delivery Office Manager or the delivery person's immediate supervisor. All pouch weights on the randomly selected delivery rounds will be recorded on a new pro-forma (copy attached). This process will take place in each Delivery Office and non-compliance with the weight limits can lead to a 1 to 1 meeting between the DOM and individual in order to find solutions or alternatively a general talk to the Delivery Office staff at a 'Work Time Listening and Learning Session' (WTLL) which can take place to discuss compliance. This will in turn be subject to audit check by the Regional Safety Director's team and will also be subject to scrutiny by LA and HSE Inspectors, should an Inspection be carried out.
