Triggering a re-sign?

Post by SexyLegs »

What actually triggers a re-sign?

Our office is going through a revision and the Rep has stated that there will be a ballot to see if there is a re-sign, I was under the impression if 75% of the duties in the unit change, which they will be then that triggers an automatic re-sign?

Otherwise, seniority doesn't mean a lot does it!

So who is correct and where is the written proof to back it up with?

Thanks :cool

There shouldn't be a ballot on whether a unit has a repick.
If it is triggered by the criteria in the way forward...it happens...if it isn't...it doesn't.
This kind of thing is what leads to a lack of engagement in the junior members. :cuppa

Section 16.2.

5. Section 16.2 of the Way of Working Agreement defines "Major Change" as:
.the relocation or merger of units
.a significant process alteration arising from automated working or reshaping of the pipeline
.delivery revisions, which involve significant re-plotting of walks or significant restructuring of attendance
patterns (e.g. full time/part time mix, five-day weeks, "longs and shorts" or nights plus a first delivery, where
they are agreed).
For a re-selection exercise to be considered the extent of such a change must be that it has a significant
impact (in content and/or attendance times) on over 1/3 of the jobs in the unit. (New jobs should be included
in this number).

6. While it is not possible to be totally prescriptive as to what constitutes "significant", cases will need to be
judged on their merits, using the attached "Guidelines" (Annex 1). The test should be that it could be argued
that, to all intents and purposes, the job is no longer the one previously signed for.
7. The logical approach is to first confirm the number of unchanged jobs, using the Guidelines. For there to be
a full office re-sign the number of unchanged jobs must be less than two-thirds of the total (including
reserves). In these circumstances, the facility of a re-sign will be agreed with the changed and new duties
being jointly identified with the appropriate CWU representative, as specified in the "Procedure" section of
Annex 1. (The decision tree at Annex 2 illustrates where an Office/Unit re-sign is appropriate).
8. There will be a further review of these arrangements in the light of working experience, to ensure that the
objectives set out in paragraph 4. (above) are being met.

Does that amount of change guarantee a repick or must it still be put to a vote with the members?

The only possible vote you should have is whether to have the repick prior to the "go-live" date or wait until after the 6 week PIR period to allow the duties to bed in and any problems to be resolved.
If a repick has been triggered by Major change it should be followed through, that is a national position otherwise you are stopping possible progression from part-time to full-time,opportunities for reserves to move to a settled duty and in some cases even surplus employees using the MTSF process.

So the only criteria that matters is:-

If more than 1/3 of the duties in the office have changed, 'changed' can mean either start times or from pouch bags to P&L or attendance times (is that right?) then that automatically triggers a re-sign, there is no argument, it triggers it and that's that?

Cos I don't want to look a wally when I go in tomorrow and say we have to have a re-sign :Very Happy

Just goes to show the benefits of this forum regards the rules and agreements, as if a re-pick doesn't suit management they will do their best to keep things quiet :no no :no no , as I have said before help is always at hand on here and i'm sure thanks to all who give their time etc to help us all :Applause :Applause :Applause
Get your rep to put in a disagrement re. your non re-pick or put in a grievance yourself if that falls on deaf ears..... Good luck :Very Happy

Not counting my chickens just yet, but think i may well become the new rep at our place. Heard whispers other chap has withdrawn his name and it was between me and him. I will be on here quite a bit if it happens for plenty of advice. Not sure what ive got myself into but think i'll enjoy it.

Hi, I'm new to all this. Our office is undergoing revision in next few months. We are having a re-sign for walks. Is it done in seniority? Sound like ours will be, but from what I've been reading here not sure if this is the norm or what?
