PT Workers Annual Leave and Bank Hols

Hi,

I started with RM on 3/5/11 and work 24 hrs a week Weds - Sat. Please can anyone tell me how much AL I am entitled to in my first year and also how my bank holidays are calculated.

Are you not gettng this information from your office or are they trying to fiddle you?

Basically - they've just told me the AL but according to my contract I should be entitled to some bank hols worked out on a pro rata basis of harmonisation.
I 've done a rough calculation myself based on 8 BH a year but I wanted to get a second or third opinion.

Never heard of such a thing at RM. You are either contracted to work that day or not. If not I doubt you will get the credit.

Interested to know otherwise.

As you work 4 days a week you are entitled to all the bank holidays. If you do not work on the bank holiday you should have the day credited to your leave card. The annual leave program that creates your leave card should automatically show the correct amount of leave you are due with the bank holidays added manually.

As far as I can work it out you are entitled to 20.5 days for this year - including bank holidays (A full time employee get 4 weeks + 8 days bank holiday or 28 days based on 5 day week so it sounds about right) or in a full year 22.4 days (again sounds about right) Please see various links and quotes that got me to this figure.

If you are a part-time worker, you are still entitled to 5.6 weeks' holiday – 5.6 of your normal working week. For example, if you work two days a week you would be entitled to 11.2 days' annual leave a year:

2 days x 5.6 weeks = 11.2 days

You should be treated no less favourably if you are a part-time worker than an equivalent full-timer. This means that if your employer gives extra days off to full-timers they may have to give extra time off to part-time workers as well.

Based on the information provided, you are entitled to 20.5 days' statutory paid annual leave for the year starting 1 April 2011.

A worker's statutory paid holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks (28 days for a worker working a five-day week). This can include public and bank holidays. The entitlement for part-time workers is calculated on a pro-rata basis.

Everyone is due some form of Bank Holiday entitlement but the amount depends on how many days you work. If you work four days or more then you will be entitled to all bank holidays in full, any days less than four then your entitlement will be on a pro rata basis reckoned against a five day week. therefore if you are a saturday worker then you will be entitled to 20% of a five day entitlement. If you spread this over the eight annual public holidays then your entitlement is one and a half days per year.
