D2D/mail issues - need to know where i stand

hi guys,

been at royal mail for 3 years now, i am really starting to get hacked off and finally realize why the old timers hate the job...
just to explain my duty

in at 6 - prep my walk as well as ips
8am i go out to deliver mail to rural offices which takes an hour
9am - i have to throw off the rest of my walk (in our office the ips doesnt get done till about half 8, same as packets, and we had a 20minute break off the sorting which set me back even more)
10am - load up my van and go out (by this time some posties have already started their second bag
2pm finish time (13:20 without break)

before i start i have to do drop bags as well as tracked items for 3 duties near my area which takes 30-45mins on average

dont start actually delivery of my walk until 11 usually leaving me 2 hours 20minutes to deliver (we have 4 hour deliveries at our office)
now the managers of the office know the deal with this walk, they know i have to thin out on a daily basis (i leave double dsa, double 2nd class non stamped) yet it gets ignored, im sure this must be illegal or something with that amount being left?)

i havnt had time to do my d2d's and the manager has came round and put them on my frame (to frighten me?? let me knows he knows i havnt done them??)

i will get pulled in the office and we have no union rep at our office but i need to know where i stand on this.

i have no time to complete my walk let alone d2d's! what is the score on this?

it enrages me that we have another section in our office that starts half an hour later and they still beat me back as well as being able to do the job properly.

completely given up hope, pissed off is an understatement.

I wont be the first to say this and I won't be the last.

just work your hours, if they want the d2d's taken out do so, but leave behind more of your walk.

its your dim's responsability to make sure the mail etc gets out not yours.

just work to your time and go home, let them worry about it.

and get a rep from another office to come over to yours to see you or an area rep, you are entitled to union help whenever required and your dim has to see you get it when you need it.

ok thanks, thats what i wanted to hear and what ive been doing. i just know the manager will say "well do it in your own time, everyone else does" which is a blatent lie.

i am dreading tomorrow ill be honest but only because i just dont want to lose my temper about the whole thing.

Sit at your frame prepping your walk for a long as it takes to do it all properly including D2Ds. Take any breaks you are entitled to and only go out once everything is prepped and bagged up. Work out if you can how much you think you'll be able to get done and cut off what you can't, make sure you tell the lino before hand and stick to your guns. Once out work to your time and if that means bringing some back then so be it. The DiM and his linos will just have to take work off your delivery if there's too much to do.

Thining out or streaming of mail is definately not allowed, if your manager is telling you to do this i think he may be guilty of wilful delay, you should get in touch with a union rep.

From your description it sounds like you're not on Park and Loop yet.... dont worry, once that comes to your office all your problems will be behind you!

thanks for the advice on here guys. no we are not on park and loop yet, well half the office is.

i knew it would have been willful delay of mail and the DiM did have words with the lino about the problem but it has since been forgotten.

I have thought about becoming a union rep, i just dont know if i have the knowledge to represent the union as i would like to.

Working to Royal Mails rules is a lot of fun, so many managers tearing their hair out.

Working to your own rules or someone elses only causes stress on your part.

Under the Way Forward Agreement Door to Door items are now part of your daily workload.Time should be allocated to prep and deliver these items within your duty time(a minimum of 16.5% per day).
The door to door items must be delivered on a daily basis.DON'T LET YOUR MANANGER TELL YOU OTHERWISE!!If you have to cut off mail then so be it.Your union rep should back you up on this.

And as for the one that said 'most walkers have done their first bag by 10am'..................don't get me started!!

finish at 2pm, 13.20 without a meal relief

that is unlawfull, working time directive

you cant take your break at the start or end of your duty

ram that down your doms throat

AND TAKE YOUR MEAL RELIEF, YOU GET PAID FOR IT, USE IT OR LOSE IT
