Can i stop delivering mail to hiss adress

Post by Carp »

Hi folks, looking for feedbacks and advise before i see my DOM this Monday regarding a incident on my walk this Morning.
I've a customer who normally works in his own shop, and he also residend in a stair further up the Street, which i deliver in a different bag, also he sends parcels too his home,so having too take his parcels too his shop instead. Now my point here is i've aways been having difficuly gaining access too his stair,so having to retry again the following day.I informed him for ages about this and told me that the postie who was on the walk before refused a key,and nothing he will do about it.
Fair enough i thought,as can't force him for a key.Anyway this morning handed his mail adressed to his shop, then asked where is i had mail from his stair,in return i told him i had attemped his stair earlier and is in my van.
Then he suddenly snaps out of the blue and starts demanding my name as he wishestoo maske a complaint,as he shouts that he left the stair open for me which is crap as that door is never open for me.
As he ws being very rude and intimading i never reacted and camly told him that i already being telling him that i had diffulty gaining access too his stair and today was no different.I think, too be honest he was trying too show off to one off his custemers or at least tried too provoke me but failed miserably.
I told him that under no circumstances that i should take his verbal abuse, and will report him for it when i get back. Then he calls me a miserable b------,i asked him what did you say,and repeats it.So i suppose i done the right thing and told him don't be expecting his mail from Monday onwards,as he will probably have too collect it himsel.
I got back too the depot and line manager was away home,so ireported it to aother line manager, and told me i done the right thing and see my linemanager this Monday.
Too be honest,i hope my line manager and rep and backs me by refusing too take his mail too him, because if i get told too cotinue to deliver his mail, then what would the point be in having postmans' rights with his sort of aggresive behavour, and would feel that i would be a laughing stock, and a soft touch. :pray

When I reported abuse to my manager he wrote an arsey letter to the guy telling him that if he had a problem, he should contact him and not shout abuse at me in the street. The best advice is to not say anything to them, or just laugh and walk off (that irritates them more than anything else). Then report it to your DOM and make sure that they write to the customer and tell them it's not acceptable and any further abuse will result in stopping of deliveries.

Been there myself. Well done, seems like you acted professionally.

i would tell him if it is addressed to your home then i will attempt to deliver it there and if it is addressed to the shop then i will attempt it there, if either is unavailable then it gets carded but i will only deliver as addressed. then i would tell him any more abuse and i will deliver to neither! bet he changes his attitude then!

:Very Happy First rule of thumb--you deliver to the address on the packets--letters--he has no right to ask you to do otherwise. i had a similar situation with a shopkeeper, who used to have mail addressed to other units in the same building, although they had long shut down, or hadn;t even existed! his argument was that as he had the only Indian name ih the mall, he should get all the mail, with his name on regardless! Turned out he was work8ing a flanker with council tax etc!
Stand your ground, and your Manager should back you to the hilt on this one.

'Cause he's an awkward git!

I work on the same industrial estate as the local DO (PDO they call it), and any packets that are addressed to home (depending on who's pouching up I guess), usually get delivered to the industrial unit. Makes life much easier for us too actually, as we get our home deliveries at around 1-2pm (much earlier on a Saturday.. ), but if i'm in a rush for a packet, I can go over there and grab the stuff as early as 9:30am or wait till 10am 'till he brings it round on the start of his van round.

Anyone with sense would get packets delivered to their work if the home address is empty at the time of delivering..

Thanks for the feedback folks, but my main point was i had no problem with taking his packet too his work,as it does state on his flat door too post any packets too his work[not mail] further down his street.
However on Saturday morning he had no packet,so therfore i tried too tell him that all the mail is in my van,as i carry a different bag by the time i get too his work place from his flat.
However,i got pelted with verbal abuse includind calling me a Ba----- twice. If i called him that then i simply would be collecting my p45.
All in all i thought i was doing him a favour by taking his packets too his work in the first place, then again it pays to be kind i suppose. Also in theory if he wants his packets and mail redivered too his work then should pay.Still,i can't wait for him too put that complaint in,as am sure there will lyes in it,as he is the type. Also tomorrow i'm going too ask my dom for him to come and pick his own mail up.As i believe 100% that all posties should have a right to do their rounds without recieving verbal abuse :wave

Well you 'shouldn't' be doing that(Your manager/union rep has since informed you that it is wrong and is a conduct/sackable offence issue :whistle )so that has to stop,so he's fecked himself.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
