Accident Advice Needed

I slid and twisted my knee on Wednesday, whilst I was walking up a drive way due to decompossing leaves, I carried on with my duty with no real ill effect. The next day I was on a duty I had never done before the 1st half of the duty was fine but as soon as I got to the 2nd half my knee started to throb because I was going up and downstairs. I said to one of the line managers yesterday that I had jarred my knee, he never put it through erica, I told him and asked if I could do a duty that didn't involve going up and down stairs I had to swap with one of my colleagues which my colleague did. I agreed to work my day off on Monday as I had a pick of duties and picked one that I know has hardly any stairs. My own lino texted me today saying I would I mine doing an other duty I said fine but it's basically all stairs to access the houses for most of the walk. I know I'm going to go over my time can I claim for it and should I chase up getting it reported up in erica and I can hear something click in my knee. My lino response by text was just be careful some response

Clicking in the knee is a tell tale sign of cartilage damage.
Make sure the accident is recorded. It is late. They won't want to do it. Make sure they do.
See a doctor.

I can only reiterate what clash has said. I too had an accident at work which I didn't report, damaged my knee and didn't see a Dr, thinking it would be OK in a day or two. Eventually the pain became all too apparent and I had to see a specialist and the end result was I could no longer do a delivery after 6 years. Definitely see a Dr sooner rather than later, he will refer you for xray probably. I must admit that the injury I suffered was a bit worse than a slip, my knee joint actually bent the opposite way it was intended to do and the damage was worse than I thought but of course that was hindsight.

It may be worth checking the walklog for this delivery to see if there is any hazards listed for this address

I would certainly get a hazard added.

Cheers the leaves had decompossed to like mud and a dark tarmac drive way so it was near impossible to see it. I'll get in on Monday I've got a knee support and I have been taking Ibuprofen i'm going to give it a week to see if it gets any better as I'm not off again till a week on Tuesday as I don't think I would be able to walk into a hospital off the street. How would it affect my attendance record as I was off with a chest infection due to being out in all weathers for 3 days 1 of which was my day off.

If it is my cartiliage how long would I be off for with it? and where would I stand with my pay I've been with RM since Oct 09.

Have to agree, make sure you get it logged on ERICA. If you have any more pain with your knee make sure you get yourself to the Drs and get a referal to see a specialist, don't let them fob you off with Physio. If you've done your cartilage it needs to be treated as they don't heal and you don't want a tear getting worse.

It depends how bad the tear is - and if it requires surgery. It could be a year from diagnosis to surgery if the surgeon doesn't rate you as in need of immediate attention.
It is keyhole but it may be 4/6 weeks before you are back on delivery, though you could be back earlier on light duties.
If it is logged as an Accident on Duty it should be discounted from the Attendance Procedure.

Same here ,loose slab ,trip with impact ,didn't bother . Three days later tendon damage became apparent ;could not walk.
Got a stage warning.
Still |Then came in to work with swine flu ,cos I didn't want a stage two Wimps dropped like flies :chuckleEfficiency

You are too late, the horse has bolted, you didn't report the accident for a couple of days, (have you even updated the walk log in order to protect your colleagues), you continued to work afterwards, including overtime and days off. It sounds to me as if you want it both ways, only reporting the accident as an excuse to land preferential duties.

You're not going to get an entry into ERICA after 24 hours; any time you take off as a result of this late reported accident will not be considered as an AOD for the purposes of the attendance procedure and a stage will be issued.

Next time you have any accident, however minor, make sure that an entry into ERICA is started within 24 hours, (the details can be filled in later).

Had you reported the accident and updated the walk log,( it could have been entered into WRAP), the Manager and Health and Safety Rep will have completed their investigations and sent a letter to the customer informing them of the hazard in order that they may remove it. You and all of your colleagues would also have been reminded to take more care due to moss, algae and decomposing vegetation.

Can you see now how selfish you have been by not following such a simple procedure?

BTW - You don't get chest infections due to being out in all weathers so please don't try to blame your Employer for that time off!
