Seniority on re-pick?

Post by DaveF14 »

Our office is coming up to an office re-pick and with having 10 years service was wondering who is senior to me in the office. Who has seniority to me regarding these following issues.

1 Postie has 11 years service but took a year and a half career break and returned to the office.

2 Postie has around 13 years service but left Royal mail for about a year roughly 7 years ago. But did return on a job share for a couple of years on 20 hours contract and then eventually back to full time.

3 Postie has 11 years service but 7 being in different office.

Personally i think 1 and 3 are more senior but 2 i think shouldnt be.

Answers would be gratefully appreciated.

See the below for starters...

And num 3 has 11 years in,it does not matter how many offices he's been in.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

..and number 1 has 9 and a half years service.
.and number 2 probably has 6/7 years unless exceptional circumstances.

The general position is that all service since joining the business counts for seniority purposes, whether full- or part-time, with the exception of:

• Periods worked on a lower grade than the current one (section 4 of the agreement).
Note that for this purpose all the grades being assimilated into the new Operational
Grade (i.e. PMN, PHG, SL1-6, Cadet, and the part-time equivalents) are treated as
equivalent, as are the three grades being assimilated into the new Support Grade
• Periods worked on a casual contract (section 6)
• Periods of career breaks or sabbaticals (section 6)
• Periods before a break of contract (section 6). Here the general position is that such
periods should be excluded, but with scope to agree locally to vary this in exceptional
circumstances (an example might be someone who had to give up work due to serious
domestic reasons but is later re-employed)

Num 2 could be the longest server. Depends if he took a career break or actually quit and left the business
