Deliveries - Impossible Mission?

Post by 19times »

Alright fellow Posties

I'd just like to get your thoughts on this dilemma we have on daily basis.

We have gone back to using the Trolleys as we are now back to van sharing after Chrimbo :mad but we can not complete both Walks in our time.

We leave the office gone 9am all days and we are having to leave around 2 full rows of my delivery in to be done dead on time and sometimes that's a struggle :arrrghhh

My delivery has around 760 delivery points now after the revision mainly due to my walk absorbing a walk that they have now got rid off near to mine.

We just work till our time but surely the above can't be right, they say each walk should take around 2 hours each but they are both way above that.

I said to the Lino today once both walks were thrown off, we won't be able to complete both today (again) and he said why whats the problem :funneh he did throw some mech in before i got in ( in the wrong slots as i found out later om delivery!) which helped but still we had no chance.

Question is, will anything get done? mentioned the walks need looking at but it falls on death ears.

Every day is a joke now and i'm getting rather fed up with it all to be honest.

They want you to get pissed off so that you stop asking for help, you just have to remember that it's only a job and you can only get a set amount of work done in that time, so tomorrow if there's the same amount of work then smile and tell your lino/DOM that you can't get it all done and what do THEY want to do with it :Very Happy

Remember that you've got to keep this up until they break and take something off you.

Yep i do that but i don't raise a smile to be honest, far too pissed off for that now!

I just don't get why they have put so much on to do when they must know you have little chance unless say you put your 1st letter through before 8am!! and there's no chance of that.

Streamed mail :no no from Saturday hit us today plus we still didn't complete both even doing that!! brought 2 bundles back.

Laughable now the job.

Learn to smile at them, don't take it as personal because it's not for you.

ps. Don't bring mail back, just don't take it out (it's too easy for them to hit you with wilful delay if you bring it back).

Managers shouldn't really be doing postman's work.
If he wants to "help" - he can do the delivery part.

Lino said if you have to bring some back bring it back! They are pretty clueless to be fair though!

The management are looking for ways at every step to be more efficient, the biggest inefficiency in our office is paying someone a managers wage to do opg work, when i bring it up with him he just laughs and says its easier than dealing with cut offs, when i say to the union rep about it he says yes its bad he shouldnt do it and that the union have speaking about this at the meetings he goes to,but nothing happens about it   :arrrghhh :cuppa :left:

Managers Performing OPG Work

1. Managers will not take on any kind of OPG work, unless under extreme circumstances where the USO is considered to be under a severe threat.

2. A daily meeting will take place between the local management team and the local CWU Rep to discuss if there is a threat to the USO and of any need for managers to carry out OPG work.

3. Any OPG work carried out by managerial grades will be logged and signed off by the DOM and the local rep whenever (2) is deemed necessary.

4. A joint CWU/RM report of OPG work undertaken by managers at Delivery Office will be sent to the DSM and the CWU Area Rep providing a demonstrable account of what work was carried out and why. Traffic levels and staff profile for the affected days will form part of this report.

In a perfect world the above would take place ,but it dosen't the managers do what they want and the union let them(in this d o)

But aren't the members the Union - If, and I say this not to wind you up, but, if it is such a bone of contention that people should take action themselves. This could be as little as keep mentioning it to the Rep, eventually he will get pissed off and tackle it if he is not already doing something. Or it could be mentioning it to the managers themselves. Or if it really is a big problem then there are the various unofficial and official IR routes to take.

At my DO - Managers doing OPG jobs does go on, but its relatively low level and fairly infrequent so AFAIK the rep notes it and tackles it in his meetings.

I am in the union but when your rep cant be bothered and most of your colleagues cant see the problem if they can get out earlier to carry a pouch instead of using their trolley, you feel like whats the point in getting yourself fired up over something no one else is interested in,i dont know what you mean by there are the various unofficial and official IR routes to take.please could you enlighten me cheers

Escalating Official - get the rep to use the Industrial Relations agreement - register a disagreement, escalate to ballot if there is support for it, and perhaps even have a strike.

Escalating Unofficial - get a few lads to stop working when a manager starts doing OPG work, call everyone off the floor into the canteen to discuss it if nothing improves, call everyone out on an unofficial strike - though that really is the Nuclear option and should be only used as a last resort and when you know you have the backing of the vast majority of the office.

I personally have taken part in all the above except for an unofficial strike, but have been close. Which route you chose or use depends on local conditions and the level of support - but ultimately the first action anyone who is pissed off at something is to make sure the rep knows about it, and to keep badgering him to do something. If he doesn't then get someone to stand against him and change the old guard.

 , our manager preps part of a duty every day, (except Sat! :d'oh! ) it was negotiated by our rep as part of the last cost cutting exercise, :hmmmm
I said at the time that this is nuts!
I said that if we haven't got time to prep it then there isn't enough time!! :d'oh!
I said that if he has time to do it then he hasn't got enough to do!! :d'oh!
No one seems to care at our place, :arrrghhh :arrrghhh
