When is a repick not a repick.
Have just found out when our repick is done in a few mths time that the bottom 7 full timers will NOT GET A REPICK because the office needs 7 full timers to cover illness and holidays even though some of these staff have been with Royal mail for over 10 years and that part timers with many many years of service less will get their repick on what planet can this be deamed as fair the 7 full timers are just as entitaled to their repick as the senior man when asking management AND UNION why we do not have the same rights as every other member of staff the reply its how its always been well JUST BECAUSE ITS ALWAYS BEEN DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT and the union should hang its head in shame on abandening these 7 members just because its how its always been me bitter naaaaaahhhhhhh.

Re: When is a repick not a repick.
FT duties then FT leave reserves then PT duties then PT leave reserves, that's the way it's always been.
What have these duties been doing up to now?
Is it more efficient that the FTers are used to their full hours rather than paying up PTers to cover FTers so that they can finish early?

there's something sinister going on, which is no surprise given RM's track record...DGP1 wrote:

Our office has PTer's covering the FT duties myself and other part timers picked 3 months ago in the repicks, and we've been told we STILL can't go onto those duties.
We don't know why, but it seems this is starting to happen in a few offices.
I hate this company. (I still enjoy my job though) I juyst want to be fulltime now, as I picked, I've waited over 7 years for the chance to go fulltime, and finally thought this would happen.
But I really think RM are trying to stop this migration from PT to FT all over the country from what I've seen and heard on here.

There is also the trick of increasing hours (for the lucky ones) on a "temporary" basis - So Joe Soap thinks he is on a FT permanent contract when in fact he isn't its temporary .

We will be having a repick later this year, Is that definitely the way it works.......FT Duties....FT leave reserves....PT Duties.....PT Leave reserves.
I thought it just went down the seniority list in order with part timers only allowed to pick a part time duty......but reading the Way forward agreement just now would suggest that all Full Timers get first Pick with Part time staff able to pick any full time posts that are left and be made up to full time.
But then I read RESOURCING JOBS AS A RESULT OF MAJOR CHANGE INTRODUCTION...and that says that forms are sent out and you have to indicate which duties you would like in order of preference, then they are allocated in seniority order. ( A bit like the Annual leave selection)
Which is the correct procedure please ???

I would of thought going down the list as normal, never realised the other one was in the major change thing and i've read that loads of times.mr hil. wrote:DGP1 wrote:FT duties then FT leave reserves then PT duties then PT leave reserves, that's the way it's always been.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: When is a repick not a repick.
A part-timer can only pick a full-time duty if there are surplus full-time duties.
In offices where the delivery element differs from part-time to full-time this means where there are no surplus full-time duties part-timers have to have a separate pot.
The most sensible option is to make the delivery element the same for part-time and full-time and have a straight seniority based pick of duties based on the outdoor element alone.
Once the duties are picked you can sort out the indoor element to suit the contracted hours.
Of course some members bitch that they have to know every minute of a duty before they can pick...

Re: When is a repick not a repick.
So I guess there is no hard and fast rule as to how a re-pick is organised as long as it is done on seniority, the outdoor elements being the same would have been a good idea but I think the walks are already planned now so it's too late to go down that route.
I like the idea of part timers going third so that if there are any surplus FT duties they can apply for them.
Is there a guide to how many full time leave reserves an office should have?

Re: When is a repick not a repick.
Surely (if you look at the outside element) ; a duty is a duty is a duty...The only difference would be the inside element.
I am PT (30 hrs). I have no real gripe with the delivery aspect (apart from the absorption) ; but do take issue with the lack of time for the inside. I do everything except IPS.
It does not equate.

Re: When is a repick not a repick.
I thought that was the same everywhere - PT do exactly the same as FT except for planned 2hours IPS.hampshireman wrote:Surely (if you look at the outside element) ; a duty is a duty is a duty...The only difference would be the inside element.

My duty;
2 Hrs IPS - 2 Hrs prep - 1/2hr travel - 3.5 hrs delivering. = 8 Hours (40/39 hours in a week)
PT Duty
2 hrs prep 1/2hr travel - 3.5 hrs delivering = 6 hours. (30 hours in a week)
Although I have to agree that as a FT sometimes we get a head start if IPS is quiet, but that is rare even on a Tuesday - I think today we made 10 minutes from it.
Conversely though we take breaks in the prep stage so if we take our break we actually have 10 minutes less prep time that PTimers do.
