IHR'd .... Feeling Any Healthier ... ?

Post by guyscliffe »

Hi,
This is a thread that I have started for people like myself, who have received Ill Health Retirement, from Royal Mail.
Do you feel healthier within yourself, and confident that you made the right decision,by accepting IHR?
I never really had a choice, given that my health was ebbing away.To be fair ATOS,My GP,The CWU,and counsellers were all very good with me.Providing me with some very good invaluable advice along the way.
I found that for once in my life,I had to listen to what the experts were trying to drum into me .... " YOUR HEALTH COMES BEFORE ANYTHING "
Sure, the lump sum helped.I invested most of my lump sum.How about you?
When I see how the postmen and women are treated nowadays,I for one am glad that Royal Mail is behind me.
I continue to be under the care of my local GP,with regular contact with my counseller.
But overall i'd say that my overall health has improved, since leaving Royal Mail!
How about YOUR general well being, and health?
Of course I was sad to leave the business, but after reading some of the latest threads/comments from other members ( See Below ) I think looking back,IHR did me a favour.

This is what I was referring too :-
1. The business are looking to take hundreds of hours out of units ( delivery offices ),leading to job losses ....
2. Further revisions taking place, which in itself will take its toll on jobs

Looking forward to your comments and feedback .... :Applause

Mentally feeling much better. Not having to put up with bullying manager and a certain bully in the work place. I thought my knees got easier when I left. Now we're in winter, I can compare them to last year pre-retirement and there's no way I would be able to do even the locker job now. Not to mention the trapped nerves in my spine or calcification in shoulder that I managed to give myself cos of my knees giving up when I got out the bath. The only thing I would do different, is I would take as much time off on the sick as I could have. I was daft enough to work through the pain

But glad to be out of it? HELL YEAH!!!

Its funny that everyone is whistling the same tune, isn't it!
They are better off both physically and mentally, with Royal Mail out of their lives.
Hell, the moral must be terrible with the guys and gals with Royal Mail at the moment ( especially, with the never ending revisions and/or spending cuts )
Have been told by my counseller, that mentally I have improved since leaving Royal Mail.
And having talked to our postie this morning, live within Royal Mail during 2012 is not going to be easy ... And hence,I for one am glad i'm not gonna be part of ....
Keep in touch guys, and hopefully other IHR'd members will contribute to this thread ...
A belated happy new year to you,as well ...

My mental health improved when I finally worked out that it's just a job, all I had to do was my hours and go home and everything else is the responsibility of the manager :Very Happy

Hi DGP1 ... :wave

Am guessing that you havn't had the misfortune of being IHR'd,then?
The decision for me to end 26 yrs with Royal Mail, was more or less taken out my hands.
As I said in my original post,my GP,Union rep,ATOS,DOM and counsellers were all very helpful. As it turned out I HAD to listen to what they were telling me.
My medication coupled with everyone's continued help and advice, are helping me so very much.
But the Lino's and DOM's now treat everyone like shite :evil/mad ,so i'm reliably informed,from ex-colleagues ...

No but it was close, as I said, I got my head together (with some counselling) and haven't looked back..........knees are getting better, weight is dropping off and my drinking and virtually ceased :nervous so I feel better in the job.
